|07:03 pm - Fifty Years of Stories|
When I was younger, I was told that autumn and winter nights were the proper times for stories. I think that even now, in a life with electricity and wifi, that November nights are story-nights.
Yesterday was the fiftieth anniversary of Doctor Who, and I watched the episode during the afternoon (simulcast! timey-wimey zones!) on the last day of a most horribly unseasonable heat wave. The sunlight was almost palpable even through the drawn curtains, and Master Danger panted softly at my feet while I watched. (Except when there were Exciting Things at which I squeaked, which made him bark.)
But it was still the proper time for stories, or at least stories like "The Day of the Doctor."
Tom Baker was the Doctor who really crossed over first, and I remember the endless reruns on PBS. Peter Davison was and is still my Doctor, and a 8"X 10" glossy of him in cricket gear, bought decades ago in a strip-mall comic-book store in Dallas, still smiles at me from an inspiration board. Until recently I had the 1990s TV-movie with the delightful Paul McGann on a crumbling VHS cassette a friend of mine taped while I was traveling. I came back with the 2005 reboot, and found another Doctor I loved with David Tennant, and have appreciated Matt Smith's run and Steven Moffat's showrunning.
So this has been a very VERY good weekend for stories. Thanks, Doctor.
(And in case you know anything about Classic Who -- DO WATCH The Five-ish Doctors Reboot, written and directed by Peter Davison as part of the 50th anniversary. You'll laugh. You'll laugh some more. It is an EXCELLENT story. :))
May you have good stories this week ahead!
You know, we're not even huge DW fans, but I did make Engineer watch it with me (a Globalcast! How can one resist!) and we enjoyed it.
I will start watching again for Peter Capaldi, I think, because I have adored him for over 30 years.
Peter Capaldi is going to be a GREAT Doctor. :) And hurrah for you and Engineer joining in the anniversary spirit.
Cheers to you!
LOVED "The Five(ish) Doctors"!!!!!
I've seen some disparaging commentary about yesterday's show... I figure they just don't get it. :)
Yay for a good weekend!
Not everyone responds to every story, which is fair enough. But I did love both "The Day of the Doctor" and "The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot", in very different ways. Bless the makers. :)
Cheers and hugs!

Getting to watch new Who at the same time as the UK (starting before noon on the west coast!) was such a lovely treat. :-)
I remember having to wait and wait and WAIT for the episodes! The simulcast was a wonderful thing. :)
I remember being glued to the TV for the regeneration of 4 to 5, and oh- so excited for the movie. I wouldn't be surprised if I don't still have the various SF magazines from back then with all the DW covers and articles.
I'm glad there have been good stories for you this weekend!
If I can help facilitate your seeing the special, let me know! It deserves to be seen!
Hugs a million, and a great Monday ahead.

We had rain and cold wind to accompany our watching. It was a good day for stories indeed.
Hurrah hurrah! :)
Ready for the next chapter of The Doctor on Christmas....
I'm so glad it was good for you! I think I'm the only person in existence that isn't a WHO fan, I didn't even know it existed until the last 1-2 years. I'm always happy when someone's fandom comes through for them. :)
It is perfectly all right not to be a fan of the Doctor, my friend. :) You have other stories!
Hugs for your Monday!

How fabulouse to have a simulcast :)
We watched "The Day of the Doctor" and "The Five-ish Doctors Reboot" on Saturday night and then we watched both again yesterday night. It was a very good weekend for stories :)
I've watched The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot, um, SEVERAL times now. ;) And tonight I'll see "The Day of the Doctor" on the big screen.
Hurrah for stories and for you, K! [hugs]
Happy Monday and many good stories to you, L!

I'm glad you enjoyed the stories. I read a recap of "The Day of the Doctor" and I think it would be very entertaining if I knew what was going on :)
I do fear that the episode would be harder to follow if you were new to Who. Oh well. You'll have other stories!
[hugs] Happy Monday!
