|08:19 pm - Today's Good Things|
Because of work and an impending cold snap (well. cold snap for the subtropics), I am craving Good Things. Comforting Things. Nice things.
What I have turned to in the past day and a half:
*walking Master Danger in the brisk wind
*stretching, especially doing ye olde heart-opening poses
*Very Bright Scarves indeed
*Watching the first 24-episode block of the web-series "Emma Approved."
(The link goes to the website, which has not only the videos but also fashion and lifestyle tidbits.)
"Emma Approved" is the follow-up to the well-known "Lizzie Bennet Diaries." Yes, they're both modern-day Austen adaptations out of Pemberley Digital. I liked LBD but wasn't hooked, really -- the conceit of Lizzie being a communications grad student grated a bit, and I was rather unconvinced/unpersuaded/unmoved by the Lizzie performance too. However, "Emma Approved" -- in which Our Emma Woodhouse is a matchmaker/life-coach in a startup business, videoing her every move for the documentary she is sure will be made about her (and, she supposes, her business partner Alex Knightley) -- is really working for me.
I mean, it's slightly cringe-tastic in the same way Austen's novel Emma is. Emma is so brilliantly self-deluded! Joanna Sotomura as Emma is perfectly perfect, with vulnerability increasingly on display, and I just love Brent Bailey's khakis- and-snark "Mr Knightley," who's RIGHT THERE WHEN WILL SHE SEE. (I mean, I know when she'll see. In about 50 more episodes.)
Mr. Knightley is possibly my favorite Austen hero. Captain Wentworth is dreamy and naval and mostly faithful, Mr Darcy has a Truly Awesome House and a heart of gold underneath the reserve, but Knightley. Knightley. He's just so solid and funny and good. Adore, adore, adore.
What are you loving today? I hope you have lots of all Good Things. :)
"Emma Approved" does sound fun!
Mostly I am loving that the new Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings CD finally came out. :-)
I must listen to that CD! It must be wonderful. :)
Hugs! Happy mid-week!
Emma Approved sounds interesting.
I was craving comforting things so I made potato and bacon soup. It was yummy. And then the weather got warmer, so it must have helped :)
I'm used to the format now (little 4- to 6-minutes bites of story), and it's a neat alternative to longer form. The series is on hiatus until February, and then we'll get a couple of episodes a week. :)
Potato-bacon soup sounds WONDERFUL. Cheers for that, and for your Wednesday!
Unfortunately, I do not have much love for today. But I do have love for this glass of wine I finally get to have. And Ichabod Crane in skinny jeans. ;-)
Ichabod trying on modern clothes is in fact life-enhancing, there's no question. :)
Cheers and hugs for you! [puts more wine in your kitchen for later]
Your comfort things are always so good for you. My comfort things are generally sweat pants, wine, and perhaps a cat. Yours are, like, culture!! :admires:
The sweat pants are implied, always. :))
Cheers and a better Thursday, despite the cold!

I'm loving Wishqueen:)
Thank you so much, mate! :)
Hugs and twice thanks.
I have very much been enjoying Emma Approved (and am more or less patiently awaiting its return), too! They did a wonderful job casting their Emma and Knightley.
It makes me happy.
Yes, the casting for those two is spot-on. [beams]
Cheers and a lovely slide into Friday. :)
I just started watching Emma Approved- cute as hell. And some pretty nice outfits too.
It IS cute as hell! And I actually checked the info for one of Emma's jackets, but sadly it was sold out. Which is better because I'm in a clothes-fast, but still... ;)
