|06:17 pm - Wednesday Wish-Places: Libraries and Studios|
One of the ways I've been resting my mind at the end of a busy day has been looking at beautiful images of places, most often interiors. (I've also been indulging with two of compilations of art/photography I got for Christmas, dipping into Ed Ruscha: Fifty Years of Painting or Tim Walker: Storyteller, choosing one image a day to concentrate on. But that's not really Wednesday Wish-place material. ;))
My latest indulgence, then, has been Derry Moore's An English Room. Well-known British figures choose a room or place, and talk about what they love about this room or place, and then Moore takes beautiful photographs of them.
Here are two to dream on --
The Library at the Garrick Club in London, as chosen by one Mr B Cumberbatch. It's all wood-and-leather and warmth, perfect for quiet conversation and introspection.
The other is artist James Reeve's studio, which is untidy (and perhaps over-full of skulls), but somehow inspirational as well.
EDITED TO ADD: gwynnega nominates the reading room of the British Museum, and I am happy to put that up here too!
What rooms are you wishing for today? May you find your way to them, however it happens. :)
It's a very large room, but I often wish for the British Museum Reading Room. :-)
I've added a link to the main entry -- thank you for reminding me. :))
The Boston Atheneum is such a stately place too....it would fit right in!
Great addition! :)
Thanks, ALH, and hugs!
I saw a photo in this months Travel and Leisure of an outdoor fireplace set in field of snow, and that's where I wanted to be.
Oh wow, what a neat image! Awesome. :)

I think I'm wishing for my sitting-room to be the room I wish for rather than one I just go "eek" at! Unfortunately I can't find my way to that unless I actually knuckle down and do something about it :)
Oh, K, that's a horrible feeling. I have the same issue with my kitchen right now. Solidarity!
Happy spaces and a happy day to you! [hugs]
I keep wishing for the little* house in Derbyshire that I want to move back to.
*Technically it's marginally bigger in all dimensions than the house I live in now, even before you add in the cellar and lean-to, but it somehow feels smaller and cosier.
I hope you get your wish!
Cheers, Stevie, and happy start to your weekend!
I think I'd just like to go to the Met and explore. However, I'm not up for that journey at the moment. I think It's time to revisit some art galleries around here. ((Hugs))
An hour with a local art gallery sounds wonderful, my friend. Hugs, health, and getting out to enjoy yourself!
