Twenty-two items on this rainy-warm Saturday in the subtropics:
1)Sneezing. It is pollen season.
2)But Master Danger and I are enjoying our morning walks, now in the cool morning light.
3)I dread Daylight Savings Time, which happens unconscionably early this year -- March 9.
4)Still, we persevere.
5)Book read in the past weeks: Eve Babitz's collection of Southern California short stories, Slow Days, Fast Company: The World, The Flesh, and L.A.. Written in the 1970s, these are bitter-cool snapshots of a lifestyle gone, or so I assume. Tans, "Chavistas" (workers who follow Cesar Chavez), drugs.
6)Characters do a lot of cocaine, I'm just saying.
7)I picked up the book because I am having a strange strong yearning for a week in Palm Springs, I don't know why.
8)I don't want to go to Eve Babitz's Palm Springs, though.
9) Also recently read: Sarra Manning's latest 'grown-up' book (as opposed to her teen fiction), It Started with a Kiss. [EDITED: The title is actually It Felt Like A Kiss. Oh dear.]
10)It's lots of fun, with cool characters, but I somewhat shamefacedly think my favorite bit is that Vaughn from her book Unsticky reappears, as does that book's heroine Grace.
11)London art world, whee!
12)I just bought myself a painting. Not in London.
13)It is not my kind of painting at all, except that I saw it and wanted it immediately, for the colors and movement and joie de vivre.
14)Isn't "joie de vivre" a great phrase?
15)I am looking forward to my upcoming vacation -- I'm sorry, "vacation" -- which I hope will be overflowing with j d v.
16)I'm not going anywhere, Iut I'll be seeing friends and refreshing spaces and writing, and these are all happy-making things.
17)Style joie de vivre -- this Sartorialist shot from London Fashion Week, taken at Somerset House.
18) SOMERSET HOUSE. I LOVE SOMERSET HOUSE.
19) I say "thumbs up!" Just like this great photo of Diane Von Furstenberg.
20)What's making you happy today?
21)May you have abundance of it!
22) And a lovely rest of the weekend. :)
That Sartorialist image just sings "Audrey Hepburn", doesn't it?
And every time I see the words "Somerset House" I am reminded of clandestine marriages in thirties mysteries...
The photo IS somewhat reminiscent of Hepburn (A). :)
Cheers for 30s mysteries and you, ALH!

Vive le Joie de V:)
Hurrah for J d V and for you, mate!

Sounds like the painting called you by your true name! Where will you put it, and what does it look like? Inquiring minds want to know.
I passed on my Saturday morning out again so I'd be up to the family expedition to Costa Mesa. But that was fun; the Daughters don't do family things so much anymore.
A good rest of the weekend to you.
The painting is now hanging in my bedroom (which, having white walls and floor and comforter, was crying for a little color).
What's odd is that the painting wouldn't ordinarily be to my taste -- it's sort of naive-outsider-art-meets-abstraction. The heart of it is a not particularly realistic figure of a seated woman in hat and swirling skirt, on a background of super-blown-up paisley and flowers. Lots of dark pink, purple, green, gold, with touches of blue and red. It's full of movement and life in the brushstrokes, and I just like it. :)
Cheers for family expeditions, and hugs for recovery and healing.

Paintings with joie de vivre are the best sort :)
Have a lovely weekend yourself.
Sometimes a white wall needs some lively color! :)
Hugs, K, and a great slide into Sunday.

Yay Diane Von Furstenberg!
What is making me happy today: True Detective. I am promising myself I can watch more of it when I've made some headway with my taxes!
DvF is fierce and awesome. :)
Cheers for television that makes you happy, and hugs for you!

March 9th is now the worst day of the year. I think I'll move to one of those places that doesn't do Daylight Savings Time.
But I'm sure I'll get over it :)
I feel your March 9 pain, and yes, we'll get over it. :)
Cheers and hugs while the time is still unchanged, T!
March 9th is less than two weeks away. This is too soon.
March 9 is JUST TOO EARLY for Daylight Savings Time. I mean, at least wait for the spring equinox, right?
