|08:25 am - Wednesday Wish-Place: Sanctuary!|
For reasons best left unexplored at this juncture, I have been thinking about ruined castles.
As a rule, I am not someone who thinks of a castle, fortress, or similar and thinks "Whee! All I need in life is a moat and a solar in a tower, perhaps a couple of crenellations to fire warning shots at the door-to-door evangelists."
But I've been looking at this ruined castle in France -- Peyrepertuse, one of the "five sons of Carcassone" -- and thinking idly about how lovely it would be to have a modern home associated with the ruins. Imagine the sanctuary of a cool home built into the nearby hillside: stone and glass outside, light spaces and hidden spaces inside. There would be a terrace where one could look up at eight-hundred-year-old walls and think of the passage of time, and then pour oneself a nice crisp glass of Vouvray and listen to birds singing from where they've made nests amidst the stone.
But really, that's too much trouble. My wish-place today will be a small, beautifully restored home in Marfa, Texas, with some ocotillo in bloom outside and this delightful message on the kitchen walls. Make tacos, not war.
Words to live by, and wish on. :)
Where's your sanctuary today? May it bring you peace, and possibly tacos.

Lovely photos, although the castle is rather overwhelming. I think a nice little mossy grotto would be more my style. One of those faux ruined temples, perhaps?
Today is a slow day; I'm doing the really necessary usefuls-slayage, but not much more. At the moment, we're between invasions of loud noises as the motorbikes and cars with noisy engines depart, and the gardeners with noisy trucks and gas-powered blowers arrive. Not perfect peace, but the best I'm likely to get until the next telemarketer's call.
You seem like a person who would like green and shady repose! Sort of Keatsian. :)
I'm glad you're resting today. [hugs]

That does sound lovely:)
Raises a glass with you.
I just got a bottle of white burgundy, but alas, I must work tonight. We'll share a virtual glass later. :)
Cheers and hugs!
Mmmm, tacos! I've refrained today, but maybe tomorrow....
Cheers! Happy rush toward the end of the week!
Oddly, the first thing I thought on seeing the French castle was Machu Picchu...I suppose at some point all ruins on top of a green hill are sisters under the skin.
My refuge today is home, home, home, where I have almost all the frantically pressing tasks (of this week) accounted for. The rest can wait until next week when I'm truly restored.
Thank you for the ocotillo!
hugs and sanctuary for you!
Oh wow, what a cool association. [beams]
I am so very glad you're home and in the process of restoring self. Hugs, wine, and good things!
That is some ruined castle, all right.
'Castle' doesn't quite seem the mot juste, does it. 'Fucking great fortress', perhaps....
Cheers hugs and tacos!
Also in favor of tacos. And crenellations.
As far as sanctuary, today I was eying the space under my desk. Not that I was in immediate need, more of a back-up plan. ;-)
Hee! I don't have enough room under my desk at work, and at home it's full of Master Danger's fur. ;)
Cheers, hugs, no need for back-up plans.
That's a splendid castle there.
It rather is a spectacular place! :)
Cheers and a good weekend to you.
