|08:06 pm - Rainy Night|
I just got back from a glass of wine with a friend in the Small Downtown Where I Live. Just after I arrived at the bar, the heavens opened up. It had been threatening thunder for half an hour or so, but the downpour was slow to follow. It rained hard for half an hour, and then stopped.
The clouds are still here, though, and it will likely rain at least once more before midnight.
It reminds me of one of my favorite songs -- "Rainy Night in Georgia." It's a sad song, a slow jam, a song that can be bluesy or country or something quite other. According to Wikipedia, it was written by country artist Tony Joe White and popularized by R&B singer Brook Benton, so there you are.
I think my favorite cover is by Boz Scaggs, from his 2013 album "Memphis." I love his phrasing and the way he uses his lower register here -- but it's the song too, the way it evokes that slow steady fall from the sky and the meditation that follows.
Even if it's not rainy where you are, may you have something you love to carry you through.
I don't remember ever hearing the Boz Scaggs version before, it's a great song.
It really really is a great song. [beams]
Hugs, my friend!
Oh, I haven't listened to Boz Scaggs in forever! I just about wore an album to bits when I was in college.
I love, love, love the early Boz Scaggs recordings too! But his work in the past ten years has a bluesy edge I really enjoy. :)
Hugs and good thoughts!
The rain shower sounds lovely! We are still Drought Central at the moment...
I've been watching the drought numbers. :( I hope there's rain in your near future....

I'm glad you didn't get soaked.
Me too! It rained very hard indeed, but not quite as much as we needed....
Cheers on this Saturday, mate! [hugs]
Love that Boz Skaggs cover--perfect for the night.
I'm so glad you liked it. Cheers and a lovely spring day to you. :)
