|04:41 pm - Cashmere, Herbal Tea, and Links|
It's a cold day even in the subtropics -- and I have my pot of Piper's Cure herbal tea ready to go, two layers of cashmere on (a sweater over a thin cotton turtleneck sweater; an old LL Bean scarf), and birthday boy David Bowie playing. I am holding the victims of the Paris terrorist attack and those affected by the bombing of the Colorado NAACP office in my thoughts. And I'm distracting myself with fashion links --
**Loved Agent Carter on Tuesday night! 40s atyle, pulp heroics pulled off brilliantly by Hayley Atwell's cool Peggy Carter, and the presence of sweet competent Jarvis (James D'Arcy) -- all kinds of fun. (I say this as someone who never saw either Captain America movie but absorbed enough background through fandom proximity to be able to follow the show just fine.)
For more on the great clothing in the show, costume designer Gigi Ottobre-Melton lays it out.
**Coolness of the 70s and now -- Joni Mitchell stars in the Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2015 print ads.
**I am not ashamed to say that I'm a Victoria Beckham fan -- love her wit, her perspective, her ability to learn and change (and her clothes are cool, even if I couldn't wear them). Vogue online has a "73 questions for Victoria Beckham" video which is an absolute hoot. Ex: "What's your favourite spice?" "Posh!"
**I couldn't decide which Bowie link to post, so imagine your fave Bowie song linked here. :)
May your day be warm and full of light and joy.

Happy Bowie Day:)
And happy Bowie Day to you! :)

I was wondering whether it was possible to watch Agent Carter without having seen Captain America, but it sounds as if it is.
Now I'm pondering which is my favourite Bowie song :)
Enjoy the cool and the tea :)
The first episode has enough flashbacks to let you know that Peggy Carter was kick-ass in WWII and she was heartbroken when her potential boyfriend Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, seemingly drowned. That's all we really need. :)
I literally had a list of ten possible Bowie songs that might count for me, so I just threw up my hands and let it go!
I saw just a bit of Agent Carter when it aired, and plan to watch the whole thing this weekend!
Yay Joni Mitchell and Bowie!
Yay for you, too! :)
(And Agent Carter is v.v. worthwhile.)
I thought the style for that show was SPOT ON. So gorgeous.
Isn't it just? Love the clothes and the whole mis-en-scene, as well as the performances and the writing!
My fave Bowie song is "I'm Afraid of Americans". :) I agree with you on Victoria Beckham. I actually think that some of her clothes are wearable for people above a size two; i have seen dresses that were simple and classic and streamlined. That sort of thing looks much better on the average woman than frocks with a lot of frou frou, because I think weird cuts and extra pleats or ruffles or whatever just amplify all your flaws and add bulk. However, I don't remember what her recent collections are like so that might have changed.
I am going to check out Agent Carter. :)
That Bowie song is on my list of greats! :)
Victoria Beckham's taste evolution is really interesting, and yes, she does tend to design streamlined and well-made clothing which I appreciate.
Agent Carter is all kinds of fun!

[hugs and good thoughts to you]
Yay Peggy indeed! And yay you, L. :)
We watched Agent Carter last night and loved it!
Isn't it fabulous? It's a short British-style series (only 8 hours), so I'm hoping we get another run of it next year. :)
Cheers and a good weekend!
I'm kind of glad it's only going to be 8 hours, I think they'll tell a better story rather than trying to find enough stuff to fill 20 or more episodes.
Hayley Atwell and James D'Arcy were too cute together, can't wait to see more.
I loved the bit of Agent Carter I saw- she was awesome and the style of it is wonderful.
I'm not sure what Bowie song could be called my favorite, but I do listen to Under Pressure a lot right now.
Agent Carter is seriously Good Stuff. :)
And that song is a great addition to a v.v. long list I've got going for my Fave Bowie Song! I literally couldn't choose.
[hugs for pressure] Happy weekend!
