09:20 am - Coup de foudre
Sorry to have been absent for a while. It has been...not worth talking about. La la la.

So instead, I return with a few things style-and-delight-related:

*The wonderful style blogger That's Not My Age (aka Alyson Walsh -- she has a book coming out next month) linked to a pair of shoes that struck me down the first time I saw them online in January -- the Alice polka-dot mid-heel, as in the first picture. The minute I saw them, I thought "WANT" and then immediately thought of 8 outfits I already have that these shoes would make sing. I rearranged my budget in order to get them. They are on back-order, but anyway -- COUP DE FOUDRE.

*Loved the strong 70s vibe -- long, lean, booted and flared -- in the just concluded New York Fashion week. Example: this Victoria Beckham look, which has an early 70s YSL Rive Gauche thing happening.

Inspired by this, earlier this week I pulled together a big turtleneck sweater, silk scarf, almost ankle-length denim skirt, and black mid-heel boots to wear to work. (Shoppin' my closet, friends.) The skirt was so heavy that it made a thick rippling noise as I walked. No one else seemed to like the ensemble, but I did. :) COUP DE FOUDRE.

*Who's reading the play-text of Tom Stoppard's The Hard Problem? Me. Me me me. \o/

*And lastly, via the Garance Dore site: playwright Danny Thompson made a vid of the opening credits to Beckett, an imaginary 70s cop show mashing the Streets of San Francisco theme to images and footage of Samuel Beckett. I cannot tell you how much I love this. COUP DE FOUDRE.

What's striking you like a thunderbolt these days?

Cheers, and may there be style and delight in your weekend.

Sounds like my "calls you by your true name". Which I haven't had any of lately, but the year is young yet. [hugs]

The shoes are fantastic- I like the black and pewter combination as well. (I also spent the last half hour scrolling through the blog- great images.

I'm without thunderbolts, which is a good thing- I was just at Petsmart and there was a lovely diluted calico up for adoption. The calico was not struck my me either, she had her eye on a woman and her ten year old daughter and was playing them like a master.

Petsmart is dangerous for you if you don't really want another cat just yet...

I love the blog -- she finds very very cool links and has smart things to say.

You find the most wonderful things! Those shoes could have me any way they want me, and boots with slinky/flared skirts have always owned me. If I ever get out of yoga pants and bare feet, but those could move me...

Thanks! And hope all's well, and will all be well.

The shoes are going to be so great. They can dress up a casual outfit or add a 40s touch to a dress or.... Anyway, I am excited.

That being said, I do love a good yoga trouser! :))

Hugs, joy, good stuff!

Those shoes are absolutely divine! Unique, beautiful and versatile -- I agree that they are indeed splurge-worthy.

It rarely gets below freezing where I live, and winter is becoming even shorter and warmer thanks to climate change. Spring is already in the air here, with daytime temps in the mid-teens (around 60F) so I dug my capris and sandals out of the closet. Love, love, love the mild and sunny weather.

My dad had a real health scare earlier this month, so I'm coming out of a week and a half of no sleep and lots of worry. Fortunately, he's now on the mend and I can start catching up on my rest. But first a walk in the sunshine!

::hugs, hugs::

Hurrah for your return of the mild and sunny weather! Of course, 60 is cold to me, but there we are. ;)

All good thoughts for your dad and for you. [hugs]

Ah, style.... Though I appreciate it in others, it rarely finds expression in me, but this weekend was an exception, as I spent yesterday at the yarn festival looking at colours, trying to figure out what sang to me, what pleased the eye and spirit, and what had inviting textures, or the possibility of same therein. And then looking around and seeing how these things manifested in the purchases other attendees were happily clutching and squeeing over with their friends. All in all, a very aesthetically pleasing day.

Like the lady travellers of the 19th century, you appreciate the blessings of a good, thick skirt! Worked for them, works for us - for who knows when adventure may be around the corner? *nods*

No one else liked your ensemble? They were dying of envy, is all. And omg that "Beckett" opening -- I can't even, as the kids (and I) say -- how I loved that theme song for no good reason.

Cocteau as Huggy Bear. ahahahaha!

You are too fab.

This weekend I've been listening to Coltrane, and to Violeta Parra -- and loving both. Never let it be said that I do not contain multitudes!

I seriously just keep thinking at odd moments "Jean Cocteau as Huggy Bear" and then laughing hysterically. :)

Hugs, good music, warmth, joy! Happy day, H_P.
