|06:59 am - Installment Story, Part Four: Tea History Magic|
Off to a crazy day, but I wanted to drop these few paragraphs your way. (Pardon the accidental rhyme.) Thanks to those who read them! :)
Last line was -- Fire and water and death.
She linked her fingers with his and held on. “You need to show me in here, honey. The sea’s not safe.”
His smile faded. “Funny. That’s part of what I wanted to tell you.”
But he didn’t keep going. Hand locked with hers, he surveyed her – an intelligent man’s assessment in cocked head and narrowed eyes. Then he said, “So you’re a… magic practitioner?”
She felt the world shimmer, just a bit. “Jacob Jeremiah Moultrie, what are you saying?” she managed to get out through her shock.
“Is that the right term? ‘Cause I was thinking ‘witch’ might carry too much baggage,” he said.
Melinda Jane took a deep breath, looked down at the tea leaves – yes, fire and water and death, waves of them all – and said, “I do answer to ‘witch,’ baby, if anyone has call to name me that way. You a magic practitioner too?”
“I didn’t think so, but Granddad Louis said I might be.” Still holding onto her, he pushed the box toward her. “Went up the coast to see Granddad yesterday –“
“Oh, when you didn’t answer your phone.”
“Right. Sorry. I was kind of distracted. Because Granddad Louis, who is a sharp eighty-five-year-old who still lives on his own, met me at the front door and told me it was time I knew a few things. Told me he saw things in the tea.”
Outside, the roar of ocean; inside, the leap of candleflame. The tea leaves in her cup swirled, changing the pattern. Water and fire, and a thing of power thieved from death.
Yep, i've got my seatbelt buckled for the E-ticket ride now!
I alrwady love Grandad Louis.
This might not be an E-ticket ride, but there will be some stuff happening. :)
Cheers! And rain!
Thank you thank you, and happy Tuesday! :)
