02:36 pm - Whatever, Post #27
1) Somewhere a supervillain is rubbing her or his hands together and chortling, for lo, the invisible dome over my house is working.
2) In other words, we've had two days here where thunderstorms were around, where storm gusts blew through, and where no rain fell.
3) Hence supervillain chortling, for there can be no better answer for such unhappy truth.
4) Have now watched Episode 2 of Poldark. Am getting v. strong vibes of the following triangle: Ross = Buffy; Elizabeth = early-season Angel ("I can't be with you I can't leave you"); Demelza = Spike.
5) So that is one more reason to love Demelza.
6) Let's see... I have been searching for a leather ottoman/coffee table for a few months now, but haven't purchased due to price and inertia. But then one of the local vintage-and-repurposed-furniture shops in town posted on Facebook that they had one, which I went to inspect yesterday.
7) And now it's in my house, and it's exactly what I wanted. :)
8) Not in my house, but pretty much exactly what I've always wanted: Hugh Grant, stylin', in a promo shot for the upcoming Man From U.N.C.L.E. film. As I exclaimed when I first saw the shot, 'Sweet Mother of Pearl!' (Even though his waistcoat isn't quite fitted correctly.)
9) And also worthy of happy exclamation, a shot from a Yay for the Oliviers photo session a few years back: Mark Gatiss, Bertie Carvel, and Andrew Scott.
10) Lastly, because I found this a lovely meditation on female friendship, here's style blogger Garance Dore writing about what her friends mean to her now.

May you have friends, rare finds, and joy today.

Lovely photos, but U.N.C.L.E. confuses me... Are they just using the name? Is Hugh Grant taking the Leo G. Carroll role? Since I imprinted on Robert Vaughn at age 14 (I was all about the suave in my early teens), and fell for Illya K later, I'm having trouble working out how the new film might relate. I guess I'd better do a little googling.

(ETA: I guess I see where they're going...hmmm.)

And oh, yes, one must adore Demelza in all forms.

Cheers and happy mid-week!

Yes, that's the part Hugh Grant is playing. The film is "based on" the TV series. Here, have a trailer.

(I'm not super-excited about the project, but I'll probably go see it.)

Are you off to San Diego? Whether you are or not, hugs hugs. :)

Yep, off to San Diego on Monday with the big truck...sigh. But at least it will be cooler than it is here this week!

Hugs and more hugs of the virtual, non-sticky kind!

Darn that supervillain! (I suspect it's the same supervillain that's been giving us Florida-style humidity.)

What is wrong with these supervillains? [frowns] Messing with the weather here and there and everywhere.

Hugh Grant looks very nice in that suit, I almost didn't recognize him :)

It's also that he has a short haircut, and he's letting his grey hair shine -- all of that is new. :)

Cheers and hugs to you!

I'm another whose early fandom was U.N.C.L.E. and don't think I can accept substitutes...though have to say Grant looks good there. As do those other guys. And love the Frankie love in that essay.

Hope you spend the evening enjoying your new table/ottoman!

I'm wary of Guy Ritchie movies -- I don't like his Sherlock Holmes series with RDJ and Jude Law at all -- so this has potential to be Very Bad Indeed. Also, Armie Hammer is no David McCallum. But we shall see...

Cheers and a delightful evening for you! :)

The Spike is strong in Demelza. I loves her.

She's a great character, and Eleanor Tomlinson is playing her beautifully. :) And I say that as a viewer who just loved Angharad Rees' portrayal in Original Poldark!

Cheers and cooling breezes sent your way.

[hugs]. It is also hot and muggy here in So Cal, so I deeply sympathise.

Boo for undue heat and humidity in So Cal! (And let us all join hands and hope for an early autumn!)

Hugs and a good day to you.

Oh! Ohhhh Myyyyy, as Uncle George would say, but with a decidedly hetero slant. Hugh is...growing into those looks and not out of them. Flutter.

and also, this: "my friends are like a laughing army". Yes. And you are some sort of high rank in that army, THANK GOD.

Hugs to you on this steamy, steeeeeeamy weekend. Here's to rain at some point.

Hugh is much more attractive as a Grown Man than as a Boy-Child, for me anyway. This is a testament. :)

Cheers and hugs, and I am glad you're in my army too!

So sorry about the lack of rain -- we are finally getting some, which is loverly.

Hooray for the new furniture! And the Hugh! And the friends! and mostly for you!

And okay, now I have to try out this Poldark... thanks, friend!

We got rain today, hurrah hurrah! I have new native plantings in a couple of beds in my front yard (the first phase in a four-year process), and I've been fretting about how little rain we've gotten heretofore.

(Isn't 'heretofore' a cool word?)

Hugs hugs HUGS to you, and let me say that Poldark is soapy and occasionally frustrating, but it's all pretty and there are some interesting treatments of class. :)

Nice to see Hugh stepping things up a bit!

And the friendship article was lovely. If there is one great thing about the Internet, it's that it has allowed me to connect with friends like you. ((Hugs))

That was a memorable day indeed -- if only we could teleport and meet more often. Hopefully we will manage it again someday....I'm not planning on dying anytime soon, damnit. ;) Hugs and hope you are having an awesome day. :$
