|03:46 pm - Acorn Shells, Post #35|
This morning, only a half-block into our usual 1.25-mile walk, Master Danger suddenly started limping.
Actually, no, he didn't limp. He would take a step, fail to put weight on one of his front legs, then hold the same leg out dramatically as if it were broken. We kept going, mostly by dint of my carrying him, which I will say elicited a great deal of comment from the regular morning walkers. We just went around the block and then I carried him home, mentally rearranging my schedule so he could go to the vet and rearranging my budget as well.
After I brought him inside, I put him on the plush throw rug in the living room and headed off to the kitchen for his treat. A pause, and then the familiar scrabble of all four legs on the floor.
All four? I turned around to see him looking cheerfully at me, expecting high-calorie bounty.
I went back into the living room. There on the floor, just off the rug, was a broken acorn shell, jagged around its edges. Clearly it had lodged in his paw, but I have no idea how he got it off. Anyway, there it was.
We went back out and walked just three-quarters of a mile. No acorn shells this time.
For me today, the heat is an acorn shell too. I'm shrinking away from the sun like my sunshine mimosa is doing, rearranging things on my to-do list so I don't have to go outside. La la la.
Hope your day's free of acorn shells. May you start your week off right!

I'm glad he was okay and you didn't have to wrangle him to the vets.
He is super-fine now, so much so that this evening he charged the fence (with the clear intention of going through and beating the hell out of the Chihuahua next door). I did manage to stop him, but.... Sigh.
Glad it was only an acorn shell! Silly doggies. (Bo will often step on the evil bullhorn burrs that hide in the desert dirt, but when he picks one up he won't step on it again... and having often stepped on them myself, I don't blame him!)
I don't think Master Danger was quite sure of what he'd done. When he picks up stickers in his paw he usually gives me a direct look and a bark whilst indicating the paw he wishes cleared.
Dogs, dogs. ;)

Ouch, poor Master Danger! I'm so glad for both of you that the problem was transitory.
[hugs] and wishes for cooler weather soon.
Cooler weather for all who need it! [waves banner]

I am so glad Master Danger is ok! Greetings to you and he. I am ready for fall (which makes me pathetic because it is no where near as hot as it can be in Georgia in summer).
This morning's walk was in the most obnoxious humidity-heat so far this season. I do not approve.
[hugs and cooler weather]
He has recovered and has been ESPECIALLY obnoxious, so all is well. ;)
Hugs and proper cool to you!
isn't he clever, to have chewed it off all by himself after getting a ride to start off the morning. :)
I wish you cooler days, L. If you like, come with me and Chris to Idaho, where it will be dry, crisp, and actually legit cool in the evenings! We leave at (ack spit) 5 in the morning!
'Clever' is perhaps not the word I would choose... (Hee.)
Cheers for you and Chris and gorgeous weather! Enjoy enjoy enjoy!
I'm glad he's okay and it wasn't anything more serious.
Me too! :)
Cheers for your day, T.
So glad it was only an acorn shell...I wish the heat would fall away like that for you. And avoiding the heat seems sensible to me. ((Hugs))
The heat will be gone by... November! [weeps silently to self]
Hugs hugs, my friend, and chocolate if you can have it. :)
Goodness yes, those little caps are perfect for getting stuck on a little dog pad -- Tiny Dog gets them all the time.
So glad it wasn't something Real.
The natural world is v.v. dangerous! But we persevere and enjoy nevertheless. :)
Hugs hugs! Happy day!
