|01:05 pm - Owning My Ridiculousness, Post #44|
Some days I feel like a responsible adult who's contributing to the world. Other days, well...
1) My eyebrows are naturally light but also thick, which is not a Look I particularly want. (I mean, it works like a charm for P Capaldi, but for me, not so much.) However, I also am lazy and ignore them until I can't any longer. So, this week my hair stylist colored them for me -- which immediately turned me into model Cara Delavinge's crazy and plain great-aunt. It was an eyebrow emergency.
I managed to wait until today for an appointment to have them shaped. When I was in the waiting room, M (the co-owner of the day spa and someone I know socially) came out to say Hi. I told her why I was there, and she took a hard look at me. "Yes. It IS an emergency," she said.
I am appropriately chastised. (Also, the brows now look pretty good. :))
2) Who pre-ordered the September 2015 issue of US Vogue from Amazon, so that it will be delivered to my house? Me. Yes, me.
(In my ridiculous defense, in the past two years it's actually been hard to find a newsstand copy of the September issue 'round these bohemian parts. But still.)
3) So I saw this picture of B Carvel in Bakkhai --
-- and immediately thought, in Joey-Tribbiani style, "Hey, how you doin'?"
To which question my mind immediately answered, "He's Pentheus in a freakin' Greek tragedy! HE'S NOT DOING SO WELL and WILL BE DOING A WHOLE WHOLE LOT WORSE IN JUST A LITTLE WHILE, for fuck's sake!"
I am so very ridiculous.
May your Friday be full of delights, diversions, and all the things you love -- even if they're silly. :)
Glad the eyebrow emergency was short-lived! :-)
A few days, anyway. :)
Cheers and hugs on your Friday!
Your friend M is hilarious :) Glad you got sorted though. Have a good weekend!
M was completely serious! :)
Cheers and a happy start to your weekend!
i hope no needles/threads were involved.
you look mahvelous, dahling, i can see you from here!
No needles or threads, thank heavens! I hear that's unbelievably painful.
Hugs hugs, H_P, and ease for your weekend!

I'm glad it worked out in the end.
It was a near-run thing. ;)
Hugs hugs! Happy start to your weekend!
oh my, so glad the Js rescued you from eyebrow emergency--but you tell the story so well. :)
Also, Pentheus seems like he could use a break. Maybe it could be you. :)
M can always be relied on to say the unpalatable truth. ;)
Pentheus, alas, has a date with Fate. Best leave him to his (pretty, pretty) doom.
Cheers and hugs!
Love Carvel but the silver nose? I get that it's minimal costuming, but strange....
And sure that your eyebrows are glamourous now!
I know the silver streak on the nose signifies SOMETHING, but I'm not at all sure what. (Except that he's doomed, maybe, marked by the god.)
This production has three male actors playing all the roles (which means Ben Whishaw plays Dionysus and Tiresias, and Carvel plays Pentheus and his mother Agave) with an all-female Chorus of Maenads. A silver-streaked nose is pretty much minimalism. :)
Cheers for your Saturday!
Your thoughts regarding the photo made me giggle.
I just finished reading The Convenient Marriage. It's not one of my favorite Heyers, but it does have some lovely, absurd conversations and so was both delightful and diverting.
If my ridiculousness made you giggle, then I am pleased. :)
The Convenient Marriage is a Heyer I really like -- although I'd like more of a sense of Rule and Horatia together. But the fencing scene (and its aftermath) between Rule and Lethbridge is one of my v.v. favorites.
I must say I find Mr. Carvel more attractive with better controlled hair, although he was deeply adorable as J. Strange.
Late as always but properly appreciative of your kind sharing of handsome photos!
How interesting -- I prefer B Carvel with his J Strange Regency curls. But he does look sharp this way! (I mean, OBVIOUSLY.) :)
