|12:50 pm - Seamstresses and Cobblers Yay, Post #16|
Happy spring to those in the Northern Hemisphere, and happy autumn to those in the Southern!
I have spent this spring weekend finally changing out my closets, reorganizing my dresser drawers, and culling, culling, culling. For example, last year I bought everyday brown(ish) sandals because, well, One Should Have Sandals especially in the subtropics. Except that I don't LIKE to wear sandals at all, with one small category exception. They're impractical for the life I lead, which includes multiple trips a day to my sandy, ant-filled backyard with the Dangerous Dog, and they (with one small category exception) are not my aesthetic. Just say no: this I told myself as I placed those brownish sandals in the Donate bag.
(Category exception: wedge-heeled ankle-strap sandals, whether low-heeled or higher. They generally look relatively chic with the clothes I love.)
But I also now have three items to go to the seamstress -- one repair; two reworkings of existing items, ie. shortening very old shirts to improve their proportions -- and one beloved pair of shoes to the cobbler. Reduce, reuse, and recycle, as the old saying goes...
So now I've had a pitcher of iced tea (Fortnum's black tea with cranberry), I have an errand at Lowe's, and work stretches ahead of me. But at least my closets are in order. :)
What do you do to honor spring (or autumn)? May it bring you joy this weekend.
No sandals? This boggles my world, dear friend. I Do Not Understand! :)
Oh, btw, I have a coupon from shoes.com, $25 off a $100 purchase. I am unlikely to make one of those before it expires at the end of April, so if you want it? It's yours.
I know that I'm an outlier here re sandals!
And thank you v.v. much for the offer. That London means I am now on a strict strict budget for the next few months, so I won't be able to use the coupon, but I appreciate your kind offer!
Cheers for your week ahead.
Definitely similar (except that I love sandals almost as much as no shoes at all--clear a different aesthetic going on here!). My ancient house has tiny closets, so at some point at the height of summer and depth of winter, I have all my summer clothes in one and all my winter clothes in the other. But around this time of year, there gets to be a lot of mingling, with cotton and short sleeves fraternizing with wool and black pants. However, the one garment I need is always inaccessible and or impossibly wrinkled.
The nice thing is that I'm usually much more slender in March than I was In October, so I'm wearing some things I haven't seen for a while...
Yes, I've migrated closets and now tomorrow's going to be cold. ;) But then I have easy access to the other closet, so I still feel better about doing the move!
And I am very much in the minority re sandals, I know. Several of my friends look so great in them, too, but it's just not my thang.
Cheers and hugs to you!

Yay for closet pruning:)
Not that the untrained eye would be able to tell the difference ;) but I feel better nonetheless.
I am a fellow patroness of cobblers and seamstresses. I love making a beloved pair of shoes last, well, forever, simply by reheeling as needed. Likewise, I love finding a pair of sturdy, attractive jeans that I would love a leetle bit more if the pant leg was slimmer. It's great when you find a seamstress or tailor, and a cobbler, that you love. Alas, my cobbler retired, so I'm on the hunt for a new one.
I live in fear of my cobbler retiring! He's told me that he can't do much with "disposable" shoes, as he calls them, but I know mine aren't disposable. :)
Cheers and a lovely start of spring to you!
I'm not a sandal fan either...
Hugs hugs, too!

Huzzah the Spring Cleaning!
And I send hugs and cheers your way! I hope your week starts beautifully in all ways. :)
It was cold enough last night that I dragged the winter blanket back out. It's also awfully windy, which I can totally do without.
Yes, it's supposed to be crazy-cold tomorrow and Tuesday morning here. I will bring the space heaters back out to take the chill away, but I don't think I'll turn on the heater -- the A/C's been running for a week, after all.
But it's cool enough to bake! Cinnamon rolls done and dusted. :)
You make a very good case for buying well made clothes that will last through a number of years and alterations :)
I believe in this! :)
Cheers for your Tuesday, with good stuff in your closet!
