02:03 pm - "Pank"
O woe, o weariness, o excess of color. ("O tempora, o mores," too. Which has nothing to do with the topic of my post, but I've been thinking of it anyway.)

So, on this rainy subtropical day, I've been painting my bedroom. I started yesterday, but, having been sucker-punched by the twin realizations that I a) am bad at painting and b) hate it, am taking it v.v. slowly. Today, while the rain pattered down outside, I was scheduled to paint two walls pink.

Thing is? My little subtropical place's main bedroom has two walls of concrete block, which are the devil when trying to hang pictures or similar: my theory, then, was to paint both walls a lovely deep rose color in lieu of other decoration. (Other walls, floor, and bedcover are all to be white.)

I began painting the east wall. Splatter, slap, curse -- so far, so usual. But then I actually looked at the wall.

What had been deep rose on the swatch -- not a girly pink, not a twee pink, but not a shocking pink either -- had become (and you must imagine this in a Texas accent) "pank." The name of the paint color is Singing Rose -- the effect on the wall is Janis Joplin shrieking at the top of her lungs. It is La Grange pink ("they got a lot of nice girls there"). It is hardcore.

But it also is a sparkling contrast with the azaleas outside the window. The Dog of the House will look lovely against it*. When the light's off (or when curtains soften the light), it's the deep rose I wanted. So, I'm keeping it.

But only one wall. Because, damn.

*The Dog of the House disapproves of painting. Yesterday she shed all over my pillows as a Statement.

May your colours today be just what you wanted!

Two walls would be TOO MUCH. As it is, the "pank" is likely to take over the room. :-)

I love pank. On the other hand, rose is even better, singing roses better still. And yet, one wall seems like plenty!

My admiration for painting in such rainy conditions!

Isn't it amazing how much more overwhelming the color is once it's a WHOLE wall?

Sounds like an excellent designer choice to go with the signle accent wall....

It is the smash of a troll-god hammer, that pank. :-)

Yes, single accent, absolutely. :-)

Hugs and wine and colorful yarn! :-)

Hurrah for good things in just the right amounts! :D And I've learned a new word today. Pank. *in a Texas-English accent* Paaaaaaaank. Hee!

Happy painting, L! It's therapeutic once you get into it, and satisfying once it's done. :-) And you can reward your aching self with a treat for all that effort.

*hugs!*

Paaaaaaaank!

It is so very pank. Good God-a-mighty. ;-)

I will try to enjoy painting, as you suggest. So far -- not so much.

Sounds fab! I can see nothing wrong with a colour that could be described as either Janis Joplin (piece of my heart pink) or La Grange. Rock and roll pank for the win! [squeeze]

It is lovely if confined to one wall -- and that's my plan. :-)

Sad to say, I am also painting the white. (Also, the floor.) But not today, thank heavens, not today. ;-)

I send joy and more GREEN (of all kinds) your way! [hugs]

We do need a transporter! Because I would be more than happy to help you move furniture. ;-)

I sympathize, in fact, because I am dreading (and therefore putting off) the moving of my own furniture so that I can paint said floor.

Oh my. I believe I know that color.

Painting the floor is a thing new to me.

My first cat, the one that held my heart, had the ability to projectile shed when things he did not like occurred. It's amazing how much fur a cat can lose and still not be naked.

I bet you do know this color! ;-)

As for painting the floor: it's old, inexpensive wood, which doesn't really work well with staining. (The room had been carpeted for many many years before I moved in.) White porch-and-floor paint works a treat. :-)

Hugs for cats gone, hugs for your Tuesday!

True story: when we moved, my husband was sure he could paint our entire house all by himself in a week. After a day, a painter was hired. The painting, it is difficult (and he's very handy around the house). Kudos to you to sticking it out with a bold color!

I have every sympathy with your husband. ;-) I often think, "well, it won't be that big a deal," but then when I get into it... reworking my bedroom is certainly one example!

I send good thoughts and the happiest of colors your way!
