|10:06 am - vast, multitudes, Post #34|
This summer I am engaged in some much needed home renovation and refreshment, but I am stressing a bit because I don't have a consistent style.
If I take one of those online quizzes, as found at Decorist, I can never actually decide which interior space I want or like best. Here are various styles I find lovely (warning: Pinterest):
1) Pared-Down Traditional, with lots of blue (although I don't have high ceilings and couldn't pull off that look);
2) Books, Colour, David Hicks (again with the ceilings);
3) Modern, Clean, more blue (AGAIN WITH THE CEILINGS);
4) Pared-Down Shabby, with some reclaimed and repurposed pieces a la Fixer Upper's Joanna Gaines;
5) Modern, which I super-love but couldn't live in because honestly one couldn't have tumbleweeds of Corgi fur in a space like that. Also, I like a little more cave-feeling in my interiors, especially in July in the subtropics because UGH.
Actually, doing that exercise and looking at what I've pinned over the years, I am seeing more cohesion --and there are some elements that are non-negotiable, mainly books and color.
But to make things even more complicated, I just spent a few moments oohing and aahing over this story on Bloomsbury interiors. I don't like everything pictured, but what I do like I just LOVE.
If you had to describe your favorite interiors in a phrase, what would that phrase be?
Cheers to all, and a happy Fourth/happy Monday.

My ideal, hmmm. Cool, airy, bookcases and comfy chairs? Comfort.
[Hugs for stress] I'm not sure if I have a coherent style, I just arrange what I like with things I enjoy looking at where I can see them, and it seems to work, mostly. I guess you'd call it family eclectic. Although one of these days, I really should climb back behind the TV and replace the stuffed critters Shadow knocked off the top of the big bookshelf last time she was in a rockety mood.
Oh, and I like 3 and 4 best of your images. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you go with what makes you happy, that's your style. Something along those lines.

Comfort and chairs and books -- sounds like goodness to me. :)
And HEE for your stuffed critters rearranged by Shadow.

Cats as interior decorators. Well, it'd be a unique style.
I can never resist an online quiz, so I took the decorist one - apparently I'm a Modernist. Not sure I feel it, but whatever.
Well, both pics you liked of the ones I put up are at least tending Modern? :)
Cheers and hugs.

And that's why online quizzes are so much fun! Seriously, one of the things I want around my house is vintage furniture - lots of nice wood. Not exactly Modernist. I guess it just proves that you can't stick people into nice neat boxes.
I love those Bloomsbury interiors!
I feel that purple and green is a Bloomsbury color combination, somehow, and that would be up your street. :)

My decorating descriptive phrase? Lived in cosy with books and magazines at fingertips with room for family to have a nap on the sofa in the sunshine and more books.
I LOVE THAT! Perfect -- except for sleeping in the sunshine, because I live in the subtropics. ;)
Cheers and hugs!
Happy home renovation and happy 4th!
Those are some lovely links. Love the Bloomsbury stuff, some of it.
Belated happy birthday to you! [hugs]
And yes, some of the Bloomsbury interiors are just gorgeous.
Hugs hugs again!
Heee! You clearly know your taste, L, and know what you can live with. :)
I really like 1920's art deco. Both the light and airy kind of interiors and the darker richer looks.
Deco is gorgeous! Here's a link
to an article about an amazing early-20th-century apartment. Not in color, but worthwhile. :)
Happy middle of your week!
Yep, all about the books... with many comfy chairs and sofas and big windows for air and a view of the trees around us.
love the towering book shelves in your chosen images!
There is a definite theme of books and chairs and air for us all, but your addition of trees is delightful. :)
(Off-topic: are you going to Comic-Con? Would you like an email with reading material soon?)
Yep, we leave for Comic-Con in a couple of weeks, give or take. Sigh.
I'd love some new reading material!!
I like the red wall & bookcases, but also the windows. The two do not go together though.
Well, if a person lived in England or Seattle, then red walls AND windows might be okay (because of the light) --but not where you or I live!
Cheers and hugs, and email soon.
