|08:27 am - The 14th of February|
This is never a particularly cheery day for me, to be honest, and this year for some reason is worse than usual. So -- cheer.
*This picture by the Sartorialist not only includes Simone, the v. masculine dandy who is one of my favorite subjects of the Sart, but an amazing...well, one doesn't want to use the word 'effulgence,' but it is. I could summon all kinds of stories from that image.
*ginger-chocolate chip cookies I made yesterday after a work function.
*the return of warmth and sun in a cold, cold winter.
*the following line from TH White's The Once and Future King, which has always made me smile. It's a cold Christmas hunt in the Forest Sauvage, and King Pellinore, who's been 'mollocking about in a feather bed' as he stays with Sir Grummore, has stumbled across the ailing Questing Beast whom he's been ignoring. In the midst of his rant to enlist help from everyone around him, he says, "'Come along now, Robin Hood, or whoever you are--you may think I don't know, but I do--stop leaning on your bow with that look of negligent woodcraft.'" I absolutely love that final phrase, the rhythm of it, the visual it conjures, the word 'woodcraft' itself. (It's a very Morgan Stonewood image, actually.)
But what's appropriate for the day is the thought of the Questing Beast, found and succored. What matters is Purpose and Love.
May you find happiness, purpose, love today, and may your Questing Beast be healthy.
Ah! A questing beast! What a grand idea! It's been too long since I last read OAFK! *hugs* for a good day for you, no matter your beasts!
I've reread The Sword in the Stone lately, but not the rest. I should do that. ;-)
Hugs and good cheer to you!

[sends hugs and hopes for warmth in both your life and your weather]
Hugs and warmth to you too, A, thank you!
Hugs and good thoughts, C.
"negligent woodcraft" is indeed a phrase to be reckoned with...
oh, and ginger-chocolate chip cookies sound divine. Must try them!
After two weeks of unseasonably lovely weather we are back to cold, wet and possible snow by the end of the week. Happily, we are also home from the back-to-back book fairs. Huzzah for home!
[sends virtual ginger-chocolate chip cookies and time to rest at home]
Hugs and good cheer to you!

Ginger-chocolate chip cookies!! Yum.
[shares them virtually]
[sends hugs] Happy week, Gwynne!
Good thoughts and hugs today, F! (And to D, too.)
It's been ages since I read The Once and Future King.
Ginger-chocolate chip cookies!
((hugs)) and better days.
I've actually tried to reread the whole thing recently, and I found myself unable to read past The Sword in the Stone. This says more about me than TH White's work, I suspect. ;-)
Cookies and better days wished for you, S!
Those cookies sound splendid.
They were pretty darn good. :-)
[good thoughts sent your way]
