|06:27 pm - Back again, and clearing out the mess|
I'm back now after a week away, and it's (unfortunately) summer in the subtropics. Or rather, it's summer without the rain, the latter of which we desperately need.
(Drought is an ugly business.)
As part of my summer plans, I've begun clearing out various messes in and around my house. Well, I say I -- the day after I got back, the lovely local tree service guys came and trimmed the laurel oak and the (non-flowering) cherry tree in my front yard. I have Tree Issues (these Issues including Fear, Dread, and Late-Night Catastrophizing When Trying to Sleep), but I hadn't had these ones thinned and cropped... er, ever. Now they're ready for tropical-storm winds to blow, should that nightmare occur this year; now they don't block the sky.
The next clearing-up is due to my changing locations/computers -- no longer do I perch at the kitchen desk with a desktop computer whirring; now I type away on the new laptop in my study. For some unknown reason due to twisted psychology or similar, I now can see the desk in all its unorganized inglorious reality and thus can plan the severe cleaning-and-chucking-out session that's years overdue.
Also -- tomorrow morning, perhaps, a trip to the dump/electronic-recycling center with three old, not-really-functional computer monitors and televisions. Oh, it's a whirl here, a veritable whirl!
At least I now have one of my mother's aprons -- a lovely faded floral one with deep pockets, imprinted with memories of holiday dinners and cleaning up afterward. It's not for these kinds of cleaning tasks, though. It may never be for those kind of cleaning tasks again.
What summer plans do you have? May they be wonderful, may they give you just the right perspective on your days!
Wishes you cool rain and kind breezes not nasty wind.
At this point I'll even take *warm* rain! But thanks and hugs for these v.v. good thoughts, L.
Happy start of your week!

Perhaps you could hang your mother's apron up and store little things in the pockets, or just hang it and enjoy looking at it?
I still picture you in a nice white lab coat. :)
Good on you with the tree-trimming, the trees will thank you for it!
Summer plans? Here? The less said of that, the better...
I am indeed contemplating a hook in the kitchen where I could display my mother's apron. :-) (I also found an old workaday apron of my own, so I'm --no pun intended -- covered.)
Good cheer for you, and a happy, colorful summer.

I could see the apron with little things reminding you of your mom tucked into the pockets - kind of a hanging shrine/art assemblage thingy.
I've been reading too many collage arts magazines...
Summer will not truly arrive here until July. I have a while to plan. ;-)
::makes you iced tea::
Heee -- yes, living in the subtropics messes with one's seasons in a dreadful, dreadful way. The Northwest is much nicer. :-)
Hugs and thanks and chocolate!
I don't have too much in the way of summer plans, but I'll be going to Readercon in July!
Hurrah for you and for Readercon! :-)
Not sure what our summer plans are, lots of long days hanging outside perhaps?
That sounds lovely (for people somewhat north of the subtropics [beams]) -- hugs and a fabulous summer ahead for you!
The distribution of rain this spring-into-summer -- with floods over half the continent and drought over another third -- is Not Working for me.
Hugs and summer plans to you, L!
Most of my summer plans involve writing, reading and sitting in the sun. Usually all in the same afternoon.
Happy summer, Stevie.
