|01:34 pm - Focal Points|
I have no point on which to focus.
I mean that literally, actually, and it fills me with HGTV-infected anguish. Well, I say 'anguish' -- let's call it petulance, for that's what it is.
So, right, this weekend is devoted to painting my study and then finishing a focal wall in my adjoining living room. (Anyone else earwormed by the horrific Home Depot ads, "Weekends are for Doing"? In my case, weekends are for flailing.) Here are my various problems:
1) I have to move stuff around, and I'm not sure what should be moved first. And when should I clean? And how distressed IS this making the Small Blonde Dog of the House? And good God, how many books do I HAVE?
2) Once I decide the order of moving/cleaning/prep, the focal points of that pre-painting work, then I have to paint. Okay, what first?
3) Wait, I have to use painters' tape to mark out special stripes. (Don't ask.) This involves measuring, doing complicated math to make sure the proportions are right, and then whipping out my new level to make sure the tape is straight WHICH IT NEVER IS, HELLO.
4) I have to slot in time for the nervous breakdown to follow.
Focal points. Gotta have them, that's what they all say.
May your weekend be for whatever you damn well please, with or without focus. :-)
Reading LPW books is very much a good way to spend your Saturday! But I sympathize with the laundry & bathroom cleaning, very much. ;-)
Hugs and cheers and a delicious amateur detective for you today, Rainkatt. :-)
Hoorah for "whatever you damn well please"!
I sent B and his sister off to the air show at our tiny local airport and am spinning and knitting and doing some desultory laundry. I think I'm not up to the social-ness of spinning group, so I'm just going to loll around here until the troops come back and want to play board games.
As for "how many books", the answer at our house is "too many to move so the carpets can be cleaned". I feel your petulance.
Peace, blessed peach, far away from the air show! [applauds you]
And yes, you and B probably have more books around than I do. However, since my bookcases might not be here until late next week, many of my books are out of confinement and stacked in a reckless manner. ;-)
Happy happy Saturday, ALH!
oh, yes, we live our lives amidst reckless stacks of books on the floor everywhere (wall-to-wall carpeting makes that seem so easy...)
So extra kudos to you for planning all the redecorating!
Hope you and Small Blonde Dog survive the painting ordeal. Also slot time for turning over bucket, cleaning up where dog walked in spilled paint, buying new paint..wait, no, that's me painting! Yours will go so much more smoothly because you planned your breakdown early!
But truly, it sounds gorgeous. and amibitious! Stripes!
Heee. The previous Dog of the House loved nothing better than to walk her little black furry self through paint trays, and then walk *back* through them as I tried to catch her. The Blonde Dog, however, is sulking in her 'den' in the other room because of the unapproved disarrangement of her living space. ;-)
Cheers and an excellent Saturday to you!
Pours you a restorative cuppa.
[puts ice in the cuppa, because it's freakin' hot here]
[sends thanks and hugs!]
Ah, stripes. Why are they never straight?
You can do it, L! ::shakes pom poms::
::pours you medicinal wine for later::
I fear the problem with the stripes is, well, me. ;-)
Thanks for the cheer, C, and hugs and wine to you!
No, no! Too many potential foci!
Hugs and tea. Iced tea, with focusing doses of mint!
I have no throughline, F! It is to weep. ;-)
Cheers, iced tea, and good thoughts sent beachside. May the weekend be good for you!
I need to move furniture around to make space for other furniture, but I keep procrastinating.
That is because you are wise. Bugger this moving-furniture for a lark, that's what I think. ;-)
Cheers for your weekend!
I have never had enough nerve to try anything painting or decorating related. My fear is that I'll get bored half way through and never finish.
Well, if one makes a big enough mess to start with, one HAS to finish. [cough] Not that I know anything about that.
Cheers and a good weekend!

It must be lack of focus week - I had to take the computer back to the shop (again), the Husband has a nasty coughy cold (again), and today the Younger Daughter got her wisdom teeth out. So I've been driving daughters to various public libraries, comforting and nursing the Husband, stocking up on lots of tasty soft foods, and generally stressing out.
Hugs, and I'm sure you'll work things out. And if there's such a thing as too many books, I've never found it.
I'm so sorry you all are dealing with stresses, aches, and pulled foci. Hugs and a better week from this moment on!
My weekend is definitely for flailing! (Lots to do before Readercon.)
Readercon prep is a much better reason for flailing!
Hugs and good stuff, Gwynne. :-)
