08:21 pm - And suddenly it's very much later than I thought....
This is a placeholder post because where the hell have I been (other than posting here) --

I have been writing, possibly in blood -- okay, no, it just feels like in blood, because of the agony and all -- and having conversations with my living spaces.

The latter activity is a function of watching too many episodes of Dear Genevieve on HGTV. Genevieve Gorder is very fond of saying, "in an open space you should have Things In Conversation With Like Things as a way of unifying the space." So now I have a "color story" in my living room and study (which are adjoining and open to each other), and I have Things in Conversation.

Basically it's like a pair of silver lamps shouting across the divide to another pair of silver lamps, "Dude! Hey!" So the conversation isn't sparkling, really, but y'know, shouty. In the same tone or similar.

Anyway, the painting is done, the new bookcases are up and properly filled with Stuff I Already Had (which new display space is awesome), and the Blonde Dog of the House has nearly forgiven me.

I said nearly, mind you.

Before I rush off to placate the Blonde Dog, here are three bits and bobs:

*Via the vogue.co.uk blog, designer Paul Smith's "studied chaos". My new bookcases are not quite as stuffed as his, but close.

*I've really been enjoying the current series of the BBC Radio 4 sitcom Cabin Pressure, even when Benedict Cumberbatch is ill as he was for last week's episode. Tony Head played an opera-singing airline pilot named (deliciously) Herc on last week's ep, and I believe he might be appearing in this week's as well.

*A sentence I wrote today: The thing about basins, he thought, was that one had to consider what lay beneath. Rock was not necessarily impenetrable, of course, and then there were the subterranean rivers of water, of magma, of memory, that could rise up and over and in.

May you have delightful rivers of memory today, may your summer weekend be a good one. :-)

Silver lamps don't sparkle? Maybe they need some glitter. I'm sure that if I saw it, I'd be impressed, because I know I can never see the good work I've done, especially if it's been hard work.

I like your sentence, it's very visual.

My silver lamps gleam occasionally, when the mood and light are right, but don't glitter. ;-)

I was actually just thinking that someone who'd never seen my rooms would NOT be impressed, because my home, it is 'umble, but someone who has seen it would know!

Hugs and joy for you today!

They're casual under their surface classic gleam and shape! ;-)

I love your sentence!

Your bookcases sound divine and I like silver lamps that converse any ol' way they please.

*Hugs* May your Friday and weekend be wonderful (and cool).

I always figure my spaces shout out, "Hey, this woman can't make up her mind about what she likes!" :)

Happy Friday! {hugs!}

And they're ostracizing the one lamp that doesn't look like them. :-)

Hugs and a good weekend, T!

Congrats on all your decorating progress.

I suspect my red lamp shades and yellow sofa get into all kinds of scraps when I'm not around. The red media stand keeps the peace, with help from the chocolate-brown coffee table. :)

Two rooms are just about done (I must haunt the vintage-thrift stores for one more small piece). Then, it's onto the kitchen, la la. :-)

I think that red and yellow pieces are likely to have delightfully lively conversations and/or scraps!

Happy Friday, Chase. :-)

Things in conversation with like things...</cite I'll have to remember that. And that's a lovely sentence you wrote yourself there too.

A moment's respite from Comic-Con madness brightened by mental images of your conversational furnishings...and I am loving the sentence and trying to envision it in its proper setting.

Cheers! Hugs!

And hurrah for your moment's respite from Comic-Con, and I hope you're having an excellent weekend there in all ways!

Hugs, cheers, goodness!

I love Genevieve. I do feel like I have a color story in the house -- Autumn, but the conversation right now is more like rush hour in Grand Central Station. I continue to work on that ;-0

Heeee for your home's rush-hour conversation! I know how that goes. I like color a LOT. (I'm trying to keep these rooms coherent, though: white, silver/grey, and gold/cream as the neutral-ish bases, with lots of blue and much smaller bits of blue-red.)

I've watched all the HGTV design shows, and although I love David Bromstad best, the designers I'd actually want doing my room would be either Genevieve or Sarah Richardson. ;-)

Hugs and a great Saturday!

I love David -- Mom and I are watching the latest Design Star too. I would give him a shot at my rooms because he gets how to step it down or step it up.

My favorite is Karen McAloon (Find your Style and Design ReMix). I like how she incorporates what you like and your own design ideas in to something that makes sense. Find Your Style is especially thought provoking.

And now that I think about it, I kind of like Emily Henderson's show for the same reason. Both shows take the same space and redecorate/re-tweak them in several ways to show you the impact of an individual item, like the scale of a rug or the shape of a lamp.
