|09:38 am - September Post the 2nd: Color, plus a bit of Fall Fashion Too|
A Friday where I have fifteen minutes before running off to my day... so let's play with the prompts you gave me. I'm thinking color.
See the deep blue of my default icon? That's my favorite blue.
It's deep water, it's clear sky. It's the blue of my prized glass vase handblown by my cousin the glass artist, a blue that drinks light even as it reflects it. (I've set that glass vase against a golden wall, so that the blue looks even more true. Somewhere down deep, I do believe that blue is truth.)
I understand the pull of traditionally autumn colors, the russet of leaves or the crimson of ripe apples or the surprise of pumpkin orange in the midst of green vines. For me, though, autumn is that sharp blue sky that promises wind and delight.
So, okay, a confession... I have been wanting the Perfect Cashmere Sweater.
Last year's bitter subtropical winter made me crave a little more substance in my many layers. (I am a layering fool, y'all.) I can't wear even the finest cashmere next to my skin without itching, but I can wear it with a piece underneath. And if I'm going to layer, I want a classic v-neck sweater which can show off a Versace scarf or a set of costume pearls, which can go with a pencil skirt or a pair of jeans.
But I couldn't find the right sweater. Even though I'd budgeted and planned and made optimistic space in my sweater drawer, my September search (online) for the Perfect Cashmere Sweater had been fruitless. Lands End and LL Bean, where I'd looked first, let me down; their offerings this year are short of perfection. I'd looked at Neiman Marcus, but the price made me sadly back-button away.
Yesterday afternoon, after a day of brain-fatiguing work, I came home and fired up the laptop. What-ho, I thought, here's yet another advert-email from Neiman Marcus: "What Our Stylist Has Picked Out for You." (In other words: what you looked at online, silly consumer.) On a whim I opened it instead of auto-deleting, and the first item? My Perfect Cashmere Sweater.
Half-price. At exactly my budgeted amount.
I ordered the Constellation. It's the blue of a sharp winter sky that promises wind and delight, that promises stars to come.
May your weekend provide delight and promise, too! :-)
[Note: would anyone mind if I write a Stonewoods story with the rest of the prompts?]

One of the things I envy about the rest of the country - actual autumn. Thank you for giving me a bit of it, vicariously.
I love that deep blue, one could get lost in it, in a good dreaming way. I hope your sweater is everything you desire and more, and I would absolutely not mind more Stonewoods. In fact, I would relish more Stonewoods; they are some of my favorite people.
In the subtropics we don't get Proper Autumn, but a reasonable facsimile. ;-) You and I stand together in vicarious Proper Autumn enjoyment!
Cheers and deep blue dreams, A.

Very nice to get the perfect sweater half off! Have you looked into net-a-porter.com? They have tonnes of things I can't afford but love to look at.
I would love more of the Stonewoods...anytime for any reason :)
I've looked at net-a-porter.com, but it is far too rich for my blood in terms of actual purchasing. :-)
Thank you, T, and cheers and a good weekend!
Yay for the perfect sweater. :-)
And I, for one, would not mind.
Thank you, C, and thank you twice. :-)
Hope there's Real Autumn joys for you this weekend, perhaps with a good glass of wine. :-)
Love that blue! Hope you have warm happy times in your new sweater (and know we'll have happy times reading about the Stonewoods...)
Hurrah for blue, and hurrah for you as well. :-) (I had to avoid the rhyme.)
It will never happen again. But I'm so happy it happened this time. [beams]
Cheers and a wonderful weekend of fun to you and yours!
Oh, please, I am eagerly turning over my prompt to Stonewoods fic! I'm always delighted to hear more of them.
And hoorah for the perfect sweater at the perfect moment!
Hugs and toasts and extra excitement here because it looks like the workmen will be ALL FINISHED today!
Hurrah for getting your house back, with improvements, and hurrah for you and your kindness. :-)
Hugs and good cheer, ALH! Happy weekend!
I was only just thinking that I need to look for more cashmere jumpers.
Cashmere jumpers are far more practical where you live than where I do -- but sometimes even we subtropics residents need them. :-)
Happy hunting, happy weekend!

Yay for perfect sweaters perfectly timed:)
It is a pleasing thing. :-)
Hugs and good cheer on your London Saturday, L!

I love cashmere sweaters! Especially perfect ones... :-)
This will be my first cashmere -- largely because I've resigned myself to wearing a T-shirt or similar underneath. ;-)
Happy weekend, Gwynne, and hugs!
That is pretty much the blue I wanted to have streaked into my hair, back when I was young enough to think I could carry such a thing off.
And your sweater was obviously Meant to Be.
I know someone who has that blue in her hair, and it's wicked cool-looking.
Hoping for your Texas autumn soonest, S, with cool breezes and better days. Hugs!
:applause: yay for the perfect sweater! Clearly, you are intended to possess it.
It's magic! :-)
And now all we need is a cold snap. In other words, I'll be wearing it in December. ;-)
Happy Saturday, F, with dancing and the beach and good wine!
Thank you, L! Happy Saturday, with good things and good weather and maybe some nice blue. :-)
Hooray for the perfect cashmere sweater! I have been seeking The Sweater for years, so I understand the frustration! Hugs for finding the Right Thing!
Thank you -- and I hope you find The Sweater too. (Possibly in NYC?)
Hugs and a good Sunday.
If we get to much shopping (not one of Barb's favorite things!) -- the winter wear IS coming out now (theoretically, it's a "Christmas" sweater; pale blue with lacy white snowflakes; I've seen it a few times, but never when I had the money to get it!).
Good Sunday to you!
