|11:53 am - New Season|
It's been a month. It's been a MONTH. [emphasis added to underscore the passing of 30-odd days] But I'm back here, mostly, to welcome my favorite season.
Meteorologically speaking, in the Northern Hemisphere autumn begins September 1. Astronomically speaking, in the Northern Hemisphere autumn begins at the equinox, which was just a wee bit ago.
(In the subtropics where I live, autumn begins when the rains stop, when the mornings dip below 70 degrees F and 97% humidity, where windows can be opened again. We're just about there. Just about.)
Am I the only one who finds autumn the real season of new growth? Perhaps because I live in a steamy-hot climate, summer is somnolence, is hiding inside with all the curtains drawn, is always strangely depressing. This particular summer for me was bitter and sweet, and it ended badly.
But now it's almost autumn. It's almost hot tea, and no one laughing when I wear boots 5 out of 7 days, and turning the oven back on, and the fall of early dusk, and wind from the north, and chrysanthemums, and my Vanilla and Anise Jo Malone perfume, and Charles Dickens, and such good dreams, such good dreams.
I wish you a good autumn, fellow Northern-Hemisphereans, and I wish a beautiful spring to those in the South. May there be life in this new season!

Autumnal Greetings to you, too! [hugs] and may the new season be a better one for you.
I've always liked Fall. I don't do well in hot smoggy weather, and cool grey mornings are just to my taste. So of course today it's hot, sunny and humid. Welcome to So Cal. But I do love the turning leaves and being able to bake things again, and yes, chrysanthemums.
Charles Dickens? Oddly enough, I've just started reading Nicholas Nickleby; it's my current tote bag book for waiting rooms and coffeeshops, but I may just spend the weekend on it.
Hurrah for Dickens in autumn! I'm starting David Copperfield again (it's not my favorite) and saving Our Mutual Friend (which is one of my two favorites) for next month. :-))
Cool grey mornings wished for you! [hugs]
I do love fall, but it's a bittersweet love, like welcoming an old friend while watching the one you really love hop on his motorcycle and speed away. But happily for me, he's just revving his engine right now--I know he's going to put down the kickstand and kiss me good-bye one more time.
Oh, summer. You're just a rambling man.

That's really lovely, mamculuna
, even if the feeling (re summer) is foreign to me. ;-)
May you get enough warmth in the upcoming months!
And may you feel as cool as you always are!

Yay for autumn. Though its a bit nippy here right at the moment.
I suspect it'll be even nippier in December! :-)
Cheers and hugs, L.

Mmm...autumn and Charles Dickens and Jo Malone perfume. What a lovely combination :)
Many hugs to you.
I'm glad the combination pleases, K. And isn't Dickens autumnal? (I almost said 'autumn-y.' :-))
[offers your favorite tea, chocolate biscuits, and all the hugs to you]
Thanks, Stevie, and good things and good cheer to you!
We've had a couple mornings that were in the 60's! Such a relief.
It's just a matter of time before the afternoons get below 90. :-D
Heee, here in the subtropics it's the opposite -- several days in the 80s, but 70 is apparently the unbreakable barrier. ;-)
Happy autumn, S! [hugs]

Autumn is my favorite season. I'm awaiting its arrival amid blistering heat!
Er, yes, you all in SoCal do have a different perception of the season.... Ah well, still, happy autumn!
I've always felt the same way about autumn. I have always preferred cool weather, I love the leaves and the way the air smells. I also spent much of my life living according to an academic calendar so I still feel that autumn is the beginning of the year. And September is my birthday so it's a good time to celebrate beginnings. I hope that this is a time of renewal for you. I definitely want it to be one for me as well. ((Hugs))
I know that you and I are as one in our love for cooler weather. Solidarity! :-)
And cheers and hugs for a good season and beyond.
HAPPY AUTUMN BIRTHDAY tomorrow, L! [applauds] [sends hugs]
Even after all these years since I've left school, autumn means the new year beginning and a fresh start. Today for the first time in months we woke to cool gray skies , now brightened into streaky sunshine. Suddenly I am re-energized!
The very best of autumns to you, m'dear.
Oh, hurrah for your cool gray skies! Cheers, hugs, and good thoughts sent your way, ALH.
Thank you, and many good thoughts for your autumn! [hugs]
