|05:16 pm - Dancing Toward the Weekend|
It is true that my original subject line was going to be "Crawling toward the Weekend," because, oh my fucking whatsit, this has been a crazy-busy couple of days. But as I was typing the original subject line, the dust jacket of my Reading Dance anthology caught my eye.
The jacket's spine -- it is a very thick spine, because it's a very thick book -- has Martha Graham striking a pose rigorous and sharp above the title and Mikhail Baryshnikov stretched out below it. Inspirational!
The Dangerous Dog is currently snuggled behind the desk (as is his wont), but I can get up and strike a rigorous, sharp pose or two. The question is, do I choose music to accompany this or do I dance to the unheard but real music of the universe? (Note: in this case, I can't hear the music of the universe because the rumbles of the air conditioner, the refrigerator, and the wine chiller are so loud. Also the oscillating fans. My house totally obscures any celestial or terrestial harmony.)
This morning I danced as part of my cardio workout, but it was to whatever random videos came up on VH1 and MTV Hits -- I switched between them when displeased by singer-songwriter lethargy or commercials. Now? Hmmm.
I could play like I'm a dancer in a Mark Morris troupe and dance to Handel or similar.
I could dance like Cyd Charisse, but I don't have backing dancers and my pencil skirt would split if I attempted a high kick.
So I think I'll put on a little Janelle Monae (with Erykah Badu) and work off the day. "It's hard to stop rebels that time-travel...."
May you be able to ease out of your stresses, however you do it!

I applaud your dancing in whatever form it takes.
The Dangerous Dog was less impressed, I must admit. ;)
Cheers and a great evening, T!

I think Janelle Monae is the music of the universe. :-)
[hugs] Happy Thursday evening!
OK, next time a video! Janell, Erykah, and Laura! We want to see it!
Heee. I wouldn't dare to dance next to those awesome women. :)
Cheers and a great evening!
Are all the planets out of alignment just now...squared, cubed, tesseracted?
Here is also the crazy but I applaud your instinct to dance. perhaps that will reduce my own stress over back to back brook fairs/comic shows.
I will attempt Mountain Pose. And breathe.
Hugs and the best of weekends to you!
Alas for the crazy of both your place and mine, but I hope that your stress lessens despite the other stuff.
Hugs hugs and breathing!
here's your star song, L. Doesn't really lend itself to sharp strong poses...does it? Maybe it does!
ETA: WHOA Janelle Monae!! This is fabulous dance music. Thanks for the link! Edited at 2013-09-12 10:05 pm (UTC)
Janelle Monae is awesome! She's also got a new song (alas, not on Youtube) with Prince!
Cheers and the music of the universe to you.
The Janelle Monae was twenty-eight kinds of wonderful.
And Cyd Charisse's back-up dancers were something I don't think I've ever seen before.
Tomorrow is Friday! The possibility of putting a dot at the end of this week is pretty darn exciting.
Janelle Monae is awesomeness incarnate! :)
And hurrah hurrah for the end of the week and for you, S! [hugs]

Dance like no one is watching. *Hugs*
That's one aphorism I can get behind!
Cheers and hugs to you, A.
I am determined to do two full sets of my physiotherapy exercises today, as Im supposed to.
Thanks for reminding me, and Happy Friday!
I hope the two full sets of exercises were helpful -- cheers for you, Stevie, and a good start to your weekend!
Sometimes, you just gotta. ;-)
I see your icon, and I realize that River Song is someone who dances as a matter of course. :)
Cheers and hugs to you!
