06:32 pm - So the present to myself arrived
First, thanks to stevie_carroll for a delightful virtual puppy on my LJ page this morning! :)

Second, Amazon (and Fed Ex) delivered this morning a wonderful book I'd ordered some months ago and had forgotten to expect. ;) I am Dandy: The Return of the Elegant Gentleman, text by Nathanial Adams and photographs by Rose Callahan, is a gorgeous art/photography coffee-table book that presents the stories of over fifty contemporary dandies: artists, doctors, workers in fashion, even a "reality escapologist."* The collection emphasizes diversity in both who is featured and how these stylish men define dandyism. The photographs are beautifully composed in every sense, and it's been a treat to start reading along.

*The beginning of the reality escapologist's entry: I've only met Atters once and even then I didn't know it was him because he was completely hidden inside a Doctor Who Dalek costume about the size of a mailbox.

If I want more variety in my dandies, of course, I can always turn to my Pinterest board of the same name. My dandies, however, usually aren't quite as committed as the wonderful men in the Adams and Callahan book. I love them just the same. ;)
(I note that interestingly my Dandies board emphasizes the color blue. I wonder why.)

Anyway, one more dandy for you: the 20th-century example of perfectly judged attire Fred Astaire, dancing with Barrie Chase in a 1966 television special. Mr Astaire was 67 at the time, and what he had lost in physical pyrotechnics he had retained in style.

May you find visual delights wherever you look today!

The book is wonderful, indeed. (It's interesting, too, that many of these dandies are making themselves awesome without having a lot of money -- although there are some rich fellows who spare no expense, too.)

Thanks again, and hugs!
