|06:56 pm - Monday|
Oh, Monday. This has been a day where others' demands have interrupted what were positively ducky best-laid plans of accomplishment and dash. Let us not dwell.
But in addition to actual work, this has included an unscheduled trip AGAIN to the computer repair shop to address something they left undone. Now it's fixed, they tell me. Ha ha, I laugh mirthlessly to myself. Also today, thanks to some uncluttering of a stack of paper and thus unearthing my Publix vaccine reminder, after work I got my flu shot. I guess I'll rethink my plan to do free-weights tomorrow morning. But now maybe I can have some comfort, despite Master Danger currently sleep-talking, bless.
That's it. I'll pour the last glass of iced tea (BECAUSE IT IS STILL HOT) and indulge in thirty minutes of seasonal reading.
I'm been feeling rather like dipping into my collected Saki all day. Classist, misogynist, with a slightly unnerving fixation on pretty young men: these are undoubtedly problematic things about his work, and on each reread I find more to wince at. But I dunno, his stories have stayed with me for lo these decades. So let's start. Tea's set. Book's here.
I pick up my book, and flip randomly to one of the spooky stories. The end of a story, in fact... The hounds of Fate had waited for him in those narrow lanes, and this time they were not to be denied.
Master Danger, growling, leaps into the air and then stalks to the front door. I see a shadow of a branch dipping down, dipping down, closer, closer, and Master Danger rumbles low in his throat, danger, danger. Somewhere in the mental distance I hear the opening of Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love"....
I close my book, and think about reading some Mapp and Lucia instead.
May you have only good signs for the start of your week! :)

"It's in the trees, it's coming!"
[hugs] Good on you getting your flu shot out of the way. Feel better soon, and I hope Master Danger calms down.
Happy evening, with Kate Bush along for the ride!

I picked up the collected Saki because I loved Sredni Vashtar as a child, but I found that I can only take his stuff in very small doses. :/
I suspect I have a much higher tolerance for camp than you do -- and yes, even I don't read more than six or seven stories at a time. ;)
Wishing you and Master Danger a good week!
Thanks, Gwynne, and the same to you! [hugs]
Today was pretty much useless until the google doodle led me to Celia Cruz youtubes, and there's not many better ways to spend an evening.
And I was thinking of opening a window and letting some cool air in until you gave me goosebumps with Saki and shadow branches. ;-)
Yay for serendipity, and yay for cool air! You could still open a window -- Master Danger and scary branches are here with me, after all.... Maybe tonight. :)
"I have the doctor's permission to live until Tuesday." I do love some Saki, it's true.
But Mapp and Lucia seem rather more restful....
Hugs and hopes for a productive week ahead!
I love that quote. :)
Happy Tuesday, ALH, with joys and hugs and all good books and yarn. :)

I'm glad I read that this morning rather than last night! Creepy...
My husband likes Saki but it's a little dark for me. I'm too easily unnerved.
Have a good week :)
Master Danger can be an alarming companion, what with his odd alarms and spooks. :)
There can be something dark and chill at the heart of Saki's stories, I agree.
Hugs, K, and joys for your Tuesday!

This year's flu vaccine seemd easier than previous years for me at least. I hope it is so for you too.
I miscalculated, alas -- we have major pressure change happening, and the flu shot's made me really tired, so that's a bit of a smackdown. But we persevere!
Hugs and health, L!
