|06:41 pm - Running behind|
I meant to post yesterday, but the afternoon showing of Desolation of Smaug ran a little behind. (As in, 35+ minutes of waiting for the projector to be fixed and the right film to load.) I never was able to recover my stride.
(Short non-spoilery review of the film: I have been well trained by Sleepy Hollow this year, and so if I am otherwise enjoying a film but run up against a plot oddity or infelicitous choice, I can easily say to myself "Just go with it." And so it proved with DoS! :))
Today was a bit of work, including a jaunt to the deserted workplace with Master Danger along as guard and companion. I was running behind with the work, too, but I am almost caught up. Almost. Perhaps I will recover my stride soon.
However, I also ventured out to reconnoitre for possible refurbishing. For more years than I care to name, I've had my late grandmother's mid-century modern armchairs -- boxy yet sleek, a less than pleasing pattern to the now worn upholstery -- covered in an extremely makeshift fashion. Because I will have some money at Christmas, I thought I would at last investigate reupholstering them. The best shop in town quoted me a price that was roughly two and a half times more than I'd anticipated, and more expensive than buying new. So: do I honor my grandmother's chairs or do I let them go? I cannot for the life of me decide.
Running behind in so many ways.... Hope that you're on time for all the things you need today!
Re: your grandmother's armchairs - have you thought of having slipcovers made instead of a full upholstering? We had two slip covers made for our Queen Anne chair - upholstering it would have cost us $600+ Cdn - but, the two slip covers were under that amount!
We didn't go through a store, but through someone I knew from theatre - the Prop Mistress, slumming!
You might try dressmakers and local theatre designers or interior designers?

Yes, exactly, I was thinking slipcovers too.
On time? Ha ha, I spent most of today in bed, either reading or trying to sleep. So I'm a whole day behind on all the things I need today. There's always tomorrow.
[hugs and better days] Hope there's light in our day!
I think I'll have to investigate slipcovers, yes! They'll need to be custom-made (because these are custom chairs), but it's a possibility.
Thanks and cheers, and happy Sunday! [hugs]
Slipcovers, I say. So much simpler. I got mine from Pottery Barn. :)
I think "go with it" should be the motto of every book-to-film adaptation. Or play-to-film adaptation. Easier said than done! I'm still conflicted, myself, and the easy explanation that "Tolkien wanted to include..." doesn't work for me. But that PJ is telling his own story...that works. Kind of.
Hope you catch up!
I wish I could buy ready-made slipcovers for them! Alas, the chairs are an odd size. But I will try the local dressmaker/upholstery place for an estimate.
So sorry the film didn't work for you. :(
Hugs and a good day!

Do what makes you happier.
Yes, but I don't KNOW what that IS. :)
Cheers and hugs and a great day!
You are of course right, L! I think I'll investigate slipcovers. Anything will be better than the current old sheets. ;)
Cheers and joy to you today! [hugs]
Now that we've returned, we will have to catch DoS!
Hope you had a happy birthday, BTW. :)
Hurrah for your return! :)
And thank you, my birthday week was lovely.
Hugs and a great start to your week!
