|07:04 am - Wednesday Wish-Places: a witch-house|
This week, oh gods and monsters, this week. As the work and the meetings and "the one more thing" have been flying toward me at a high rate of speed, all I can say is Angels and ministers of grace, defend us!
(Also, there is Pollen. Pollen Alert, every day. We hates it, precious, we hates it forever.)
So I am going to retreat to a Wish-Place today, just for a few minutes. It's a cottage, referred to as a "Witch's House," on the Blaise Castle estate in Bristol. The carving on the doors! The green everywhere! A real place to retreat, even though it's not a real Tudor cottage.
Blaise Castle Estate itself is famous -- an 18th-century Humphrey Repton landscape and architectural funhouse. The "Castle," while livable, began as a folly: Jane Austen used it ironically in Northanger Abbey as a place Catherine Morland (that lover of the Gothic!) wanted to go but never made the visit, never saw the lie. In warmer, drier days, it would be a great place to walk around, to hide amongst the green, to avoid work meetings and the drip-drip-drip of tedious duties.
Where would you wish to be today? May you visit it, even if only in a few moments' dream. :)

I love the photos. Does it have a hermit in a cave?
Me? Someplace where it's cool and damp and drizzly, with no dry winds and no pollen blowing around. *gingerly blows sore nose*
The folly SHOULD have a hermit! :)
Hugs and better health to you, A.

Sorry about the pollen, sounds like there's not much of a seasonal escape from it.
I would wish to be someplace warm. They've been saying for a week that tomorrow will be nicer, but it hasn't happened yet.
Pollen is all but year-round in the subtropics. One learns to deal. ;)
And I hope you get a taste of warmth soon! Cheers to you, T.

That Witch's House is amazing! I used to live near Bristol, many years ago.
Isn't it cool? I really have thought about retreating there several times today. :)
Hugs and a good evening, Gwynne!

Washes away the nasty pollen with some of our rain.
Hee, we have had a trailing cold front hit and it's storming outside right now. But not as much as the poor UK. [sends umbrella]
Ooh, that looks fabulous! I'll have to visit when I'm next in Bristol.
I bet you could get some great photos there!
Happy Thursday, Stevie.
Ah, this day ended up okay, as this snow storm finally closed the College for the rest of today, and tomorrow. Happy to be in my warm little place w/my warm little doggie.
I hope that your day ended well, with some unexpected charm, and that you catch a major break of some sort tomorrow.
I'm so glad you're snug with Little Doggie, and glad you have tomorrow off! Enjoy it for me too, as I am a-drowning in work. But at the moment Master Danger is sleeping underfoot, and I am going to crash very early tonight indeed. We persevere. :)
Cheers and hugs!
Wow -- I can't believe you have to deal with pollen in January! I hope it hasn't killed you yet. ((Hugs))
Pollen just about every month in the year, alas. But we persevere!
Hugs and a delightful day, friend.
