|03:08 pm - Goldfinger (Literal)|
This has been a day in which I have proved less than cool.
It's nothing major, but right after lunch I decided I'd spray-paint an old TV stand gold (it's all part of a decorating scheme, too tedious to describe). Somehow I couldn't find my painting gloves, but I told myself that wasn't a big deal -- I'd be neat, right?
Except that the spray-paint malfunctioned, and I ended up with three completely gold fingers. It took a ridiculous amount of mineral spirits to get that nonsense off my hands.
(Cue obligatory Shirley Bassey.)
But let's not dwell. I offer two links of cool --
*I've been immersed, the last couple of days, in reading the archives of the blog The Peak of Chic. Jennifer Boles scans photo-stories of old issues of shelter magazines, documenting several decades' worth of house style. Her taste is often for the grand and maximalist, which pleases my eye although I don't wish to replicate it, and she finds amazing gems. This post from January pulls together not just decorating style but also clothing, in a scanned Family Circle (!!) story from 1975 (!!!). The second photo in the story -- of a woman, languid, in a long black jersey dress with a white accent on the sharp neckline -- looks completely fresh and cool in a way I wouldn't have expected.
*Keeley Hawes is going to be a sharp, villainous banker in the next series of Doctor Who. Rock the hell on, Ms Hawes!
Cheers to all, and may your touches of gold be less messy than mine. :)

I'm amused, because The Goldfinger Incident sounds like something Husband would do. Not me, of course...
I would love to read more about the decorating project, should you feel like sharing.
The Goldfinger incident was, alas, characteristic of my skills. ;)
The decorating project is really just reworking with items I have. Because I did finally get a new loveseat, two chairs from the study are now in the living room. The living room chairs, now in the study, are too tall for the old, unraveling-wicker trunk that's in place, so I will be switching it out for the TV stand once proper painting has finished.
We persevere. :)
Cheers to you!

I did not recognize Keeley Hawes at first. Or at second for that matter. I had to search for other photos to prove to myself she was who I thought she was.
You weren't tempted to leave your fingers gold, just for a little while?
Shirley Bassey has conquered my weeklong Suzanne Vega earworm, which is a relief, because a week is along time to be singing Marlene on the Wall.
I love that Keeley Hawes looks so different there! :) (But of course I just think she's fabulous anyway.)
I wasn't tempted to leave my fingers gold because they looked really, really odd that way!
Cheers, hugs, and happy new earworm.

You're doing well to only have three completely gold fingers. I'd have more on me than there was on the stand. Leaving it on your fingers would probably not be good for you, but might be a talking point!
Keeley Hawes is managing to look different in every role now. In her current turn as DI Lindsey Denton in Line of Duty she is practically unrecognisable.
Keeley Hawes is really wonderful, and I'll try to find Line of Duty somehow....
Cheers and a lovely Sunday, K! Hugs!

Line of Duty is dark stuff and Keeley Hawes plays an entirely different role from anything else I've seen her in. Be warned that you might not enjoy it, but she is extremely good in it.

But did the project look great in the end?
And Keely Hawes!
The project requires another coat of paint! So I will be heading off to Lowe's for gloves. :)
Cheers and a great day to you!
Those Family Circle photos are amazing!
They ARE fascinating photos!
Hugs and a good birthday-weekend Sunday. :))

Goldfinger is now stuck in my head)
As earworms go, at least it's not a terrible song. :)
Hugs and a good day!
Your style vibe is inspiring, gold touches too! (And wow, FAMILY CIRCLE what.)

Gold to set against a grey wall, in fact -- there's a whole silver-and-gold thang happening. :)
Happy Sunday, F, cheers and beachtime!
I would have gotten the paint all over me and the room but none on the TV stand...so I think you did very well :)
Hee! I still need to give the stand one more coat, but a trip to the hardware store for gloves must come first. :)
Cheers and a great Monday!
You can never go wrong with a classic black dress. Oh, and if it had been me, the paint would have landed on my face.
I'm sure the TV stand looks awesome, though. ((Hugs))
Re paint on face: I actually switch to an older pair of glasses when I'm spray-painting, because of that possibility. :)
Cheers, hugs, yay you!
