|08:52 am - Flashing Lights|
Last night, exhausted after a busy day, I fell hard into sleep about 10:30. I dreamed hard, too, although I don't remember much about them -- Tom Hanks circa 1998 was my boyfriend, there were stalkers, there was a loud bang and sirens, there were police lights....
At that point I woke up. 1:39 am, my little LL Bean travel alarm flashed at me.
And then I realized that flashing blue light was also touching my bedroom, coming in through the open bedroom door.
I got up. Master Danger sighed in his crate in the next room, where the blue light was stronger. I went to the study window, a front-facing space, and flipped open the blinds.
Blue lights of a police cruiser, three houses down, across the dangerous intersection which collects accidents. Red lights of a fire engine, just visible on the intersecting street. The lights of an ambulance, but no sound. A knot of people wrapped together on the lawn of the house on the corner.
I stepped outside for a moment in the cool-warm night air. The whole scene was eerily quiet. A police officer, solid dark in the shadowed early morning, walked across the lawn toward the people waiting there.
I went back inside. Master Danger sighed again, heavily, as I passed by and crawled back into bed. I didn't sleep for another hour, though. The lights kept flashing.
This morning, Master Danger and I as always went by the house on the corner. Deep tire-tracks on the north part of the lawn, and a tree with a gouge in its side; shallow tire tracks on the east part of the lawn, and an absence where the mailbox used to stand.
It was sunrise-quiet, but the birds had begun to sing.
May your day be safe and full of better light.
Living in a big apartment complex, I've woken up to silent ambulance lights more than once. It never fails to be creepy!
It really really is unsettling.
Happy Sunday, Chase!

Good thoughts and hugs sent right back at you! May it be an easy start to your week.
Tom Hanks??? ;-)
That does sound like a very eerie thing to wake up to in the middle of the night.
Tom Hanks??? Yes, Tom Hanks. He was adorable in the dream, but he left before the stalker-murderers tried to break in. TYPICAL.
I bet Ichabod wouldn't leave at such a crisis. ;)
Hugs and better days for you.
Hugs and a great Sunday evening, Gwynne!
Hilarious that the noise made it's way into your dream, but didn't wake you up right away. Then again, Tom Hanks circa 1998 was a cutie ;-)
I am so, so very happy that spring is in full force! Winter is my least favourite season, all those endless days of grey wet. Although I have to admit, we got record amounts of sunshine this winter so I guess I can't complain too much.
I'm now wondering how long it had been since the crash when I woke up!
(That sentence is convoluted, but oh well.)
I'm glad that spring has arrived for you! Cheers and hugs. :)

How scary! I'm glad you and the Young Master are okay.
Luckily we're a couple of houses away from the intersection where the accidents keep happening -- but I feel for those who live on the corners. :(
Hugs and a good start to your Monday!
I've gone out barefoot into the night like that. It's weird, almost like being a ghost.
I hope tonight is more peaceful.
I do find that middle-of-the-night feels increasingly... odd, out of time. But then I am always up at 5:40, which I know feels weird to others. ;)
Cheers and hugs, S! Happy start to your week.
:hugs: strobing blue lights in the middle of the night are incredibly disorienting. I'm so sorry.
We persevere, F!
Hugs and cheers for getting past Monday. (Mostly.)
Oh dear, oh dear.
You bring it all such clarity. I prefer the closing image of the dawn walk and bird-song.
Happy Monday--it's good to be home.
I'm glad you're home too! (But I hope the retreat did what you needed.)
Cheers and hugs!
