|09:13 pm - Just under the wire....|
So, two quick posts in one!
Let's do a Tuesday/Wednesday Wish-Place for today, with a special theme -- because 23 April 2014 is Shakespeare's 450th birthday!
[blows happy-birthday horn]
My wish-place is thus, of course, Stratford-upon-Avon.
I'd like it to be a nice day, first of all, and in my wish-place so it is. A picnic by the Avon first, I rather think, and then a trip to see something wonderful at the Swan Theatre in the Royal Shakespeare Company theatre complex, and then a drink at the Dirty Duck afterward before falling into a lovely soft bed in a hotel somewhere near.
So what play would I want to see at the Swan? I could talk about past productions I'd have liked to see, but you know, I am always in the mood for A Midsummer Night's Dream. And so, the end of the play:
Puck: If we shadows have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended --
That you have but slumbered here
While these visions did appear.
And this weak and idle theme,
No more yielding but a dream,
Gentles, do not reprehend.
If you pardon, we will mend.
And, as I am an honest Puck,
If we have unearned luck
Now to scape the serpent's tongue,
We will make amends ere long;
Else the Puck a liar call.
So, good night unto you all.
Give me your hands, if we be friends,
And Robin shall restore amends.
Happy Wednesday-wishing, and happy Bard's Day to you all.
Mmmm...a pleasant reminder that we're off to Ashland in a week, although there may be no Shakespeare on this round. Mostly the Bard is played outdoors there started mid-June.
(For me the link to the Swan took me back to the namesake birds afloat, but that could just be the iPad. A lovely image and worth seeing twice!)
Happy Bard's day back atcha!

I got swans too. Very pretty swans, but these are not the droids, errr, swans I was looking for...
Sorry, it's fixed now.
Hurrah for Ashland trips, regardless of Bard availability!
I enjoyed visiting Stratford, we saw Hamlet and something else, that I can't remember but I know I didn't care for, in 2008. David Tennant AND Sir Patrick Stewart. It was wonderful :)
Oh wow, David Tennant's Hamlet -- with Sir Patrick Stewart as a Claudius for the ages!
That's a perfect memory for Shakespeare's birthday. :)
Cheers to you!

Lovely. You have such a way of painting with words.
Thank you -- and happy Wednesday, happy Bard's Day! :)
Thank you, and happy Shakespeare's birthday! :)

And happy St George's Day to you too, K!
Hugs hugs. :)

Happy Bard's Birthday! Definitely seeing a play at Stratford-Upon-Avon is on the bucket list! Happy Day to you and Master Danger!
It is a wonderful thing. The Swan is more fun than the old Royal Shakespeare Theatre, but I haven't been to the 'new' one....
Good thoughts for a trip to Stratford-upon-Avon for you someday!
Hee, ANOTHER good Stratford! Although I haven't been to that one. :)
Cheers and hugs, L!
I so love Midsummer Night's Dream, in almost any production, including the first one I saw, with Hippolyta caged like a beast and a jukebox on stage, the one where my son played Thisbe (all 6 foot 4 of him, in a blonde wig), and the classic one you make me imagine at the Swan. And greatly love Puck's speech! Thanks for the lovely thought.
Oh, what a great memory of a production! Belated cheers for your son's Thisbe. :)
Hugs and joy today!

I hope you get that soon.
Since now my trips are usually in December.... I can't think a picnic by the Avon is QUITE in season then. Alas!
Cheers, hugs, December!
Oh, this is one of my favorite speeches! Such lovely timing for you to post this...thank you!
Hurrah for Puck and for you!
Stratford swans like showing off, don't they?
They do! :)
Cheers, Stevie, and happy Sunday.
