|06:58 pm - Entertaining|
Before I stopped watching HGTV*, I found myself occasionally sucked into one of those horrifying real-estate shows, where inevitably the person searching for a home would say/sniff/demand, "I need space for entertaining." Yes, well.
*Confession: I still can get sucked into DIY Network shows; my favorite is West End Salvage, which is the Des Moines, Iowa architectural-salvage and decorating establishment of the same name.
Anyway, I've been thinking about my shabby little house and how I would like to do more entertaining but I a) have a small, extremely busy circle of friends and b) a small shabby house and c) a less than gracious Corgi. Also, d) I don't like to cook, and baking season's done.
I used to entertain regularly: a big blow-out for the Oscars, and at least one other champagne or wine party a year. Perhaps I can figure out a way to get past a), b), c) and d) and get back to entertaining. Perhaps.
What about you? Do you like to 'entertain'?
Whether you do or not, may you have an entertaining (hee) start to your week, with good things overflowing.

I would like to entertain occasionally, but we also have a small shabby house and a very small circle of local friends. (The dog is gracious, though inclined to Deep Sorrowful Stares at people who do not share their dinners with him.)
Deep Sorrowful Stares, while slightly less pleasing, are certainly better than Stares of Uncertainty and Possible Snapping. Master Danger is truly a jerk.
Anyway, cheers and cool Mexican tile!
I'm not really into "entertaining," but I do enjoy having friends over at my apartment, which rarely happens these days! Plus, when they do, it's a good incentive to clean & declutter the place. :-)
Entertaining is absolutely the best excuse for cleaning, even deep-cleaning where guests won't see! :)
Cheers and hugs today, Gwynne.
That would be a no for me. I could point to my small, overly cluttered apartment as the reason, but the truth is just the idea of entertaining makes my blood run cold.
Though I wouldn't mind the space to do it. ;-)
Heee, there is no NEED to 'entertain,' so let your blood unfreeze. :)
[cheers and hugs]
My husband loves to entertain, I enjoy it a bit but there's always a point in the evening when I'm done being around people and then I go to bed early :) Champagne parties, with the old-style coupes, would be a blast!
Oh my God YES the guests who linger.... Back during Oscars-party days, late in the evening the Small Black Dog of Chaos would plant herself in front of the television and glare the last visitors into fleeing the premises. :)
Cheers and Champagne!
Sanctuary is a worthy and important thing. [hugs]
But yay you for having guests, and yay you for having your place back. :)

Entertaining gives me nightmares! Our house is full of "things" and incredibly messy and I become hyper-conscious of the mess if anyone comes round. We used to entertain a bit despite this, until my cooking put everyone off, but now we're much more likely to meet friends in restaurants. Far less stressful :) The only thing I miss about entertaining more often is it did make me clean obsessively.
It's the hyper-consciousness that kills the love of entertaining dead, isn't it? Because I know that I don't care when I go to others' houses, but for some reason I assume all guests will be judgey mcjudgersons.
Hugs and a happy Monday!
Wonderful things to you, L! Cheers and hugs.

I don't really have any room, but it would be nice if I did.
I've appreciated when you've had me over for pizza and snacks and Who!

I do like to, very much! Although I'm more of a fan of the come and go cocktail type party over a sit-down dinner...feels like less pressure that way.
You are awesome, and yes, cocktail parties are better than sit-down dinners.
We used to entertain a lot more Before Broken Elbow, Before Husband's Newspaper Venture, Before Before...and yeah. I've decided that I'm just gonna entertain outside. We have an awesome and enormous backyard.
I love architectural salvage.
Entertaining outside can be so lovely! Good thoughts for your future parties.
I entertain. Rather a lot, really. I just wrote a long post about it, but the innerwebs ate it. So yes, I like having people over. It would be nice to be invited more often, but a lot of my friends really don't have the room to entertain at their houses.
That's wonderful -- and I'm sure that your friends appreciate your hosting and you. :) Cheers for your entertaining!
And happy rest of Monday to you.
I used to entertain at least once or twice a week, but now only have people over two or three times a month. I've also shifted from having more people at the dinner table to only inviting one person at a time. I also usually have out-of-town visitors every couple of months; for example, my longtime friend Nadja just spent a couple of days here.
I always enjoy having company, but am also quite happy to reclaim the space after everyone's left ;-)
How cool that you entertain so frequently! (Even if it's less frequently than you did.)
I must try to do better.
