02:03 pm - Rainy Sunday afternoon
The thunder has softened to a low rumble (after a few booms that shook pictures on the wall out of line), the rain is likewise softening, and Master Danger is lying on my foot, trembling.

Just another summer afternoon in the subtropics!

Actually, I am unbelievably grateful for the rain (even if Master Danger isn't). Until yesterday, I was halfway convinced that a giant invisible umbrella was sheltering my side of my Small Town: storms everywhere, everywhere, except for a small circle in which my house was located. Late yesterday afternoon, however, the skies opened and the g.i.u. shut.

Otherwise, I have no news to report. Am reading undemanding summer fare, including a reread of Allingham's Campion novels; am watching Endeavour and The Musketeers and the Weather Channel; am thinking about buying an armchair. (This, because I steered freixenet into a local shop to give her ideas for her own redecorating project and then was struck myself by a passionate desire for a reupholstered wing chair. We'll see if it's still there on Tuesday.)

So, let's think about rain and the beautiful umbrella:
*as modelled by Tom Hiddleston;
*Mark Gatiss's Mycroft, smoking pensively under his brolly;
*fashion editor Caroline Issa at Paris Men's Fashion Week. (I am also coveting Istanbul fashionista Ece Sukan's silk safari wear in that shot!)

What do you love best about rainy days?

May you have the weather and the joys you need today. :)

Oooh, rain!

Things I like best: the smell of wet growing things and clean air, and the sound of rain on the roof and dripping off the trees.

You and Master Danger have my sympathy - I enjoy thunderstorms, but the Resident Felines are terrified, even if the noise is coming from far away. So I prefer we not have all the sound and fury.

[hugs to you, and pats to the Young Master, if he'll accept them]

Clean air, so nice! :)

Cheers and thanks -- Master Danger does not care for thunder a'tall, either.

Hugs! A good start of the week to you.

This is our rainy season. It's v.v. bad indeed when we DON'T get rain! (Like all of last week, sigh.)

Cheers and hugs for your traveling week. :)

Oh, rain in the summer can be delicious...the scent of wet dust, the fresh breeze, the softening of the light.

But even more I love cold weather rain when I can sit by the fire and look out...

Happy holiday weekend!

It's actually rarer to get coldweather rain here, so I do treasure it when it happens.

Hugs! Happy week ahead to you, ALH!

I love Gatiss best!

But in my real life, what I love is waking at night after a long drought and hearing the rain beating down on the roof and dripping off the eaves. I think about my plants and trees happily soaking it up and coming to life again.

O western wind, when wilt thou blow
That the small rain down can rain--
Christ, that my love were in my arms,
And I in my bed again.

That shot of Gatiss is to die for. :)

Rain after drought is wonderful indeed! And oh I love that verse.

Hugs for your week ahead!

Good Morning!

I love the smell of soaked earth after a rain, especially out in the country. IN the city, just glad to smell clean air {G}

I also like how rainy days seem to give permission to read that book longer or piddle around the kitchen making something extra fussy or just in general - gives you extra time {G}

Have a great day and week!

I love your idea of rainy-day permission to read, cook, breathe! Perfect. :)

Cheers and a happy week to you!

oh, such a rain storm weekend...much needed, but trapped inside. Am now recovering from concentrated paint fumes. :)

Good luck with the arm chair today--that look on your face when you sat on it was very revealing. :)

Hugs, and one more day of storms...

I admire you for painting! I should have, but didn't.

The shop isn't open on Mondays, which gives me one more day to ponder.... but yes, I want it. ;)

Cheers! Hugs! Happy day!

I love how peaceful it seems to be on a rainy day; better than the thunderstorms at night we seem to always have.

Love the Gatiss pic :)

A soft soothing daytime rain is awesome indeed! Good choice. As is enjoying M Gatiss as Mycroft. ;)

Cheers for the start of your week, T.

Here's hoping the chair is still there tomorrow! A good chair can lead to much productivity in terms of reading and writing, doncha know.

O, Campion, o, Lugg! how I need a Magersfontein Lugg sometimes!

The chair could lead to greater productivity in reading, absolutely! My study doesn't have a good curl-up-and-dive-into-a-book space. :)

EVERYONE needs a Lugg or a Bunter sometimes. Lugg would be good for service with snark; Bunter would be good for unobtrusive guidance....

Sending you all the hugs!

Oh, thank you for the Hiddleston. :)

I like how clean everything smells here after rain. And the greenery. Also, I like sitting in side a coffee shop and watching the rain. ((Hugs))
