|07:08 pm - Day #10, 30 Days of Appreciation: Friday|
Oh, we made it. [clings to Friday evening]
So anyway, after a long slog it's time for pleasure. My night will be given over to two things: savoring my glass of Imagery Winery White Burgundy, and getting ready to order Anthony Head's new album "Staring at the Sun."
So the Imagery Winery White Burgundy is just utterly delicious. It's a blend, all from Carneros -- Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, and a bit of Pinot Meunier. As Jancis Robinson describes in The Oxford Companion to Wine, Meunier is one of the most planted black grapes in France, and it's one of the three grapes (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are the others) in the traditional Champagne blend, which Robinson notes is to contribute "youthful fruitiness" to the others' "finesse." There is definitely a lightness to an otherwise solid Chardonnay base in this particular wine, with a really lovely smooth mouth-feel (none of the oiliness of Chardonnays I dislike).
I've had this wine for a few months, but tonight is drizzly and cooler than summer hideousness, so it has been a perfect bridge into the evening.
The other thing is that Anthony Head has released an album -- "Staring at the Sun" -- via his own website. It's mellow, acoustic, just right for a rainy night -- at least if you love Tony Head's voice, which I do. You can hear a few snippets of songs at the link, and you can get a download or order a CD if you're old-school like me. (You get a download if you order a CD, btw.) EDITED TO ADD: Damn, his cover of "Winter Wind" (trad folk with a 70s-type arrangement, with a lyric from Shakespeare's As You Like It) is just delicious.
Ahhhh. It's the weekend.
May you appreciate your slide into Saturday!

I have never been able to get into wine myself, but I love hearing other people talk about it!
I feel that way about reds, actually, since my reaction to any red wine is usually "Well, that's -- [sneeze sneeze cough]". :)
Cheers to you and K, Barb!

I can drink fairly sweet whites, as long as I stick to a single glass, but alas, that is my limit!
A glass and a half of wine is my limit too. (Two glasses of Champagne.)
I've decided that I've learned to savor it. ;)

Interesting wine, I'll be on the lookout for it next time I'm in the States.
I figured you'd be listening to the new Anthony Head album :)
It's really a fine wine. :)
Cheers and music to you!
