07:26 pm - Day #23, 30 Days of Appreciation: ...it'll come to me

I have been absent because of a brutal three days at work, during which I have, well, worked, done the meeting-hell thing, internally cursed work-emails, and finished two stacks of horror-work and happily dumped them off my desk. I have not had time to book important handyperson maintenance on my house, chase down the completely absent lawn-service guys who haven't mowed in almost 3 weeks, read my usual style blogs, or breathe.

Also, a brief round of autumn sweetness is already gone.

I did manage, however, to finally read Baroness Orczy's novel of The Scarlet Pimpernel. I was surprised -- and sort of pleased -- that Marguerite is our primary POV character, and as always I am a pervy Sir Percy fancier in all ways. The book is, er, not necessarily good? But it is id-tastically good, which is about all I could handle.

In other news, Arthur Darvill has been cast as Long John Silver in an upcoming National Theatre production of a new Treasure Island adaptation. This version has been written by Bryony Lavery (who began her career writing avowedly feminist plays), will be directed by Polly Findlay, and features a gender-swapped Jim, now a young girl. And who has tickets for a December show? Me. Me me me.

There, I appreciate that. :)

May there be stories and productions that make you happy!

You had not read Orczy's novel before? Well. I have to say it is one of my very favorites to reread at certain moments, and I started reading it when I was so young that the idea of what makes it "good" or not was not even in my head! I will take your word for it.

Hugs to you for surviving your week, hopes for a soothing fall break, and hello, the return of summer! (ACK.)

No, I'd never read it! Shocking, I know.

Cheers and hugs to you, despite the return of summer. At least it's convertible weather for you... :)
