|05:30 pm - Treat Yo' Self|
Today is a Day Off.
(It's been a long week, let's just say.)
Anyway, I have decided that it is my own version of the practice of Treat Yo' Self, as immortalized in Parks and Recreation, which series just ended. (The finale was just LOVELY, btw.) I've linked the clip defining and illustrating the practice, but for me, it's not just purchases. It's also taking a moment to breathe.
So I just set the table with my grandmother's Noritake china (swapping out my everyday placemat for a linen one), made myself garlic-and-herb baked fish and a salad and a toasted muffin, poured myself a glass of Miner Vineyards Viognier gifted to me on my birthday, and put Billie Holiday on the stereo. It's a rainy day here in the subtropics, and as night falls we're already enveloped in grey and green.
Master Danger got an extra sliced bit of carrot or two, as well.
That really is treating myself. (The fish and the wine are PERFECTION together.)
I hope you can treat yo' self today with stuff you already have but don't use. Let today be special for you.
Cheers. Treat yo' self. :)
That sounds so comforting (and delicious). I woke up to wonderful rain mixed with some slushy attempt at snow which continued all morning and has now cleared but with the hope of some more in a day or two...
And as for stuff we have but don't use, B surprised me this morning by picking up the piles of books that have been sitting on the living room floor since November. (Never mind that he moved them more for fear of leakage from the roof than to please me...he knew it would also make me very happy).
There's actually enough room on the living room floor to do some yoga for a change!
Here's to treating our own selves like beloved guests. ( raises virtual glass of Vionier.)
Yay for rain in your drought-stricken state (although fingers crossed for no roof leaks), and yay for yoga and you!
I love this -- Here's to treating our own selves like beloved guests. Perfect. :)

That sounds wonderfully relaxing and pleasing. It is very important to do these things sometimes. I have a few duties waiting, but today I finished a fic, planned a little caching adventure by the sea, and am about to put a brand new sheet on the bed. So that's good too. Have a lovely weekend!
Yay for adventures, ficcing, and clean sheets, and yay for you, Head Rush! :)
It was v.v. nice. I'll have to do that more often.
Also, happy birthday month to you! :)
What a beautiful plan.
And it just so happens that I came home very sad yesterday, and found an unexpected envelope in my mailbox with two, two! beautiful cards in it and a very sweet note. You couldn't have known that I would particularly need something yesterday -- but it was simply perfect.
Thanks so much, and all the hugs!
I'm so glad the cards came on a day you needed them!
Hugs hugs, H_P, and a less mournful week ahead for you.
What a beautiful Treat Yo' Self that was! I'm sure your self was charmed with the elegant meal and the delightful company--and the blissful meeting of fish and wine. That's doing it right!
I've treated myself a little too well, food and wine-wise, this week, and need to enjoy a little austerity. I decided it was time to start getting myself ready for the operas and weddings I see on my calendar, so after an hour or so of unsuccessful but very pleasurable online shopping for a dress, went and got new mascara and a wonderful foundation that is white in the jar but goes on like a cloud's kiss and turns the color of my skin. I've been waiting for that!
Hope you get many more treats but many fewer reasons to need them.
I enjoyed using the china, actually eating like a mindful person, and listening to music -- it was a great treat which needs to become a habit.
And how fabulous that foundation sounds! I hope you find a great dress and hear wonderful music, too (not to mention enjoying the ceremonies coming up). Hurrah!

Great idea:) I'm glad it helped:)
I am now wondering why I don't do this more often! :)
Cheers and hugs to you, mate!
Hugs, L, and happy spring break to you! (And regards to Master Danger and his carrots.)
Happy break to you too, F! Happy dancing! [hugs]
That sounded like a nice day off. We need to use the things we have more often, I have some really pretty silverware and tea cups that don't get enough use. Fine china, on the other hand, we need to buy...just have to agree on a pattern :)
I only have good china because I inherited it from my grandmother! I don't think I'd have chosen the pattern, but I do like it. :)
Cheers for using what you have!
