|09:05 am - Stuff, Post #15|
1) Man, it's a bummer to be this stuffed up and sneezy.
2) Man, it needs to rain here. Week and a half without precipitation at my house = Not Good.
3) I need to stop starting entries with "Man."
4) I'm past the halfway mark in my reread of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, the television series of which begins in two weeks here in the American Colonies.
5) I have spent the last 60 pages or so of the reread saying aloud, with increasing pain on each repetition, "Oh Jonathan honey NO." (He is my favorite.)
6) Because he is a fictional character in a finished work, he keeps making Wrong Choices despite my entreaties.
7) There's a cool interview with Bertie Carvel who plays JS, today in The Guardian.
8) I found the interview worthwhile even though he speaks highly of Ben Whishaw, who is near the top of my Irrational Dislike list.
9) I need to go brew my tea for iced consumption this afternoon. Moroccan Mint from Pipers or Ginger Green Tea from Fortnums? Or Provencal Grey from Pipers? It's a question.
10) What are you drinking on this last day of May? I hope it's refreshing, whatever it is.
Cheers and great lists to all!

Sympathies on the stuffiedupness - I've been coughing and sniffling since Patches woke me this morning. I'm hoping mine passes quickly, because this is the week of All the Aged Mum shopping.
But I digress. I'm not quite halfway through JS&MR. I find all the footnotes very distracting, and I'm accustomed to 19th C novels with footnotes. Perhaps if they'd all been put at the end, where they could be accessed as needed rather than breaking the narrative... But I am determined to finish the whole book this time, and it is an interesting tale, so I persevere. I'm not sure how well it'll adapt to TV, though - how many hours do they have?
Hugs, and I hope you feel better soon. I'm drinking hot Twining's Irish Breakfast, and trying to decide if it's worth getting up to add some fresh lemon. Ginger green tea sounds like just the thing for sniffles.

I hope you feel better!
Yes, the footnotes in JS&MN are indeed distracting, but I finally figured out the rhythm in which to read, and I've managed to finish it. Yay!
The series will be 7 episodes. I imagine they'll have to condense some stuff to make it work, but I'm looking forward to it.
Hugs and tea and health!
I haven't even gotten to Jonathan in my reread yet (slow going). But I did think, after they were able to cast the entire Weasley family, they couldn't find one ginger in all of England to play Strange? :) (I like this article about the actor - hopefully he'll play it well enough to make me happy... yes, he's my favorite, too; that's why my last computer was named Jonathan Strange!)
I should make up some iced tea, too.
The actor seems like a good choice, even if he's not ginger!
Yes, my least favorite part of the book is all the opening chapters with Mr Norrell. According to the brief reviews I've seen, the TV adaptation brings in Jonathan earlier, which I approve. :)
Cheers and iced tea to you!
I think I'll like him!
I always warn people it DOES start slow (but the opening chapters ARE kind of necessary to set the whole scene). But yes, it could easily be condensed. This afternoon I've gotten to Stephen Black - every time I read it I'm reminded anew just how amazed I always am at this book. I can't wait to see the adaptation!
Tazo Refresh (peppermint, spearmint and tarragon) for the moment, with the expectation of some kind of pear cider when we head over to the Black Sheep for Celtic live music this afternoon...last year they fnished up sith bagpipes, so who knows?
Apparently we really are on vacation...
Sending reinforcing thoughts against the sinus congestion...still hoping to find my copy of JS&MN when we get home next week...chaos is everywhere chez nous.
Hurrah for refreshments and Celtic music! Sounds like a good getaway indeed. :)
And I hope you can find the book when you get home, despite construction chaos!
Sorry you are stuffed up and sneezy!
I had a nice big cup of coffee, but I am craving another...
Beware the late-in-the-afternoon coffee jolt! :) But enjoy the day regardless.
At this hour, turns out I'm drinking Negra Modelo....stopped in the middle of reading your post to go buy a kindle of JS&MN, and realized from the very first sentence how much I loved it. Can't wait to see it!
I had that "no, stop!" problem with Camille Desmoulins in A Place of Greater Safety, which doubly didn't work because he'd been a historical person before he was fictionalized, and there was just no way to shout loud enough to keep him away from the guillotine. Sigh. Why won't they listen?
Negra Modelo is a good thing! :)
Re Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell: the opening 100 pages or so are a bit of a slog, but necessary. I hope you enjoy it!
I do need to read that Mantel book. I see that it's going to get a BBC series adaptation!
Cheers for your day!
JS&MN is a re-read for me. At first I thought I might watch without reading again, but decided I'd rather have the pleasure of a second read than the pleasure of an unspoiled viewing (I remember bits and pieces, but not the whole thing).
Yay! :) I realize now that I must not have finished it the first time through, but I've finished it now.

Sorry for the stuffiness. I hope you feel better soon.
It's going to be Russian Caravan for after supper tea tonight I do believe.
What a great tea! You are inspiring!
[hugs for your day]
Last night's episode was very good.
Only 12 days to go until it starts here. :)
Cheers and hugs!
I would have sworn I had a copy of JS&MN but apparently not.
If I have anything to say about it you will have rain- we have more than enough.
