|12:49 pm - Pursuant to the Recent Discussion of Leslie Howard, a Christian Kane Thang, Post #16|
Many years ago, I had a summer romance with a guy who looked a bit like Christian Kane.
(The fellow was cute, short, and stocky-fit, with twinkling eyes and an affect that was at once outdoorsy and cultured. The relationship was Not to Be, but I sure 'nough had a good summer.)
When I saw Christian Kane as Lindsey McDonald in Angel some years later, I blinked in mostly pleased reminiscence. And then I watched more closely, and kept watching.... and yeah, I have a Christian Kane Thang.
The key point (besides that he's cute as hell) is that his public persona and most notable roles -- Lindsey McDonald, Eliot Spencer in Leverage, and now Jacob Stone in The Librarians -- focus on a seeming paradox that is very dear to me: the Tough Guy and the Aesthete-Civilized-Guy in one. It's the flipside of my love for Leslie Howard, etc, where the outside is the Aesthete but the inner truth is more competent, more down-to-earth, and more dangerous. So, Eliot Spencer is the Leverage team's 'hitter' but also the expert on food and drink; Jacob Stone of The Librarians is the genius who spent his days as an oil field worker and his nights writing esoteric art-history articles before becoming a Librarian. Kane, who comes from a part of Oklahoma I know well, sells the good ol' boy and the artistic soul equally.
I love that. I suspect that people who don't know me well would find my Christian Kane Thang surprising, but nevertheless.
So you can imagine my joy at finding out that Christian Kane is working on a web series that is a cooking show. HE HAS A COOKING SHOW, people. The website doesn't appear to have the episodes up yet, but the site itself is here: Kane's Kitchen. The first episode will be "Purple Pizza," the second "Chicken n' F'ing Waffles", etc.
And bless his heart, the website also has special youtube videos of his trip to the ER when he was wielding a sharp knife too enthusiastically and cut open his thumb. That is ridiculously adorable.
What do you like that might surprise people who don't know you well?
May your day be full of surprising joys. :)
I'm glad you're getting more CK:)
So am I! :)
Cheers and hugs, mate!
Love the contrasts, but also love the eyes, and the shoulders...
It's funny how people who don't know one well can fixate on the little they know about you as the whole package. NOTHING would surprise the people who know me well, but in so many parts of my life, I'm surprised to discover that I'm a staid and proper Southern lady, a wild-eyed misfit, a purely spiritual being, a good-time girl, a free-spirited rebel, an intellectual...I think for those who don't know me well, there are plenty of surprises, mostly just that everybody is more complicated.
Eyes, shoulders, and we can't forget CK's voice (speaking or singing)... :)
You're right that everyone is more complicated. The older I get, the more I believe that -- and try to remind myself when I meet someone who seems easily pigeonholed!
Happy evening to you. :)
Yay Christian Kane!
(And yay Leslie Howard!)
Every cut off his first EP ("Kane") is still on my regular playlist.
I know exactly what you mean about him - I love having a "tough guy" who is also smart. (Something that pisses me off continually in "Bones.")
Yes, that first EP is really good!
(And I know what you mean about Bones.)
Cheers and hugs today!
I think the fact that I saw both Husker Du and Black Flag back in the early 80's surprises a lot of people.
Christian Kane, my friend. Christian Kane. [beams]
And I love that you saw Black Flag back in the day!!
:perks: he has a cooking show??
Yes! The episodes aren't online yet, but they're coming. :)
Cheers and hugs to you today, F!
OMG, I HAVE THE SAME THING. AND THAT IS SO AWESOME.
Eliot was BRILLIANT. BRILLIANT. He also called Nate on his BS when necessary.
(Did his evil hand cut him?)
THE BREW PUB MENU IS THE HARDEST TO CONSTRUCT!
Hee, I don't know if it was his evil hand that cut too enthusiastically! :)
Cheers and hugs and lots of CK goodness today!
And how cool that you have a fondness for skateboarders! Awesome!
