|01:50 pm - Wednesday Wish-Places, Post #32|
For a while I was doing Wednesday wish-place posts, but to be perfectly honest, I have a fairly limited set of places I dream about.
At this very moment I am dreaming of a dry-garden (like this, maybe) patio behind a house in Sonoma, listening to Carly Simon's No Secrets album, maybe with a bottle of Russian River Dry Creek Sauvignon Blanc (organic, obviously) open on the table nearby. The cool air smells of lavender.
(Note: I actually am listening to No Secrets right this very moment. This album means a lot to me.)
But my subtropical day is likely to get too sunny for me in an hour or so, so then I'll mentally teleport myself to Mr Norrell's London library in Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. It is a triumph of books and panelled walls and eighteenth-century trim -- as you might be able to discern in this image. (My darling Jonathan is swearing to remain Norrell's friend despite going off to the Peninsula. Sir Walter Pole, played by the delightful Samuel West, seems dubious.) It's just the place to curl up and avoid the Day-Death-Star, with a good book and a cup of Fortnum & Mason's Waterloo Gunpowder Blend. The study smells of books and wood-fires and something uncanny in the corners.
So, where's your wish-place today? Or wish-places?
May you love where you are, in person or in your dreams. :)
I'm glad you have the study to mentally escape the Death Star.
Only two and a half months, three at the outside, of the worst of the heat! [hides]
You killed me with that garden in Sonoma, and then again with the booky, wood-firey study.
Thank you. I have no energy for dreams, and must borrow yours. :-)
Hugs, energy, and good dreams, H_P!!
My wish-place is the hotel room where I will end up tomorrow after a Day of Travel! :-)
I hope it's an awesome hotel room, with cool amenities. And I hope your travel is easy, too. :)

I don't have a name for it, but someplace cool and cloudy and drizzly would do me just fine. I do not love you, California, in the summer or the fall...
Cool-cloudy-drizzly = YES, me too!
[hugs and cool breezes]
Loving JS&MN but still far behind. But that's OK, since I'm also trying to catch up on re-reading it.
My wish place is actually where I am right now, but, sigh, leaving soon for Chicago--also wonderful in many ways, but not the warm summer ocean.
That dry garden is incredible. My next to best wish place would also be Sonoma...or Mendicino...
The book and the TV series do have some points of divergence, but the series *feels* like it's faithful even when it's not. To me, anyway. ;)
Yay for being a place where you're happy, and good thoughts for finding joy even in a place less conducive to it!
I admire your mental fortitude. Today my wish-place is an air-conditioned independent bookstore with comfortable chairs for browsing, where I hope to be after I go into Seattle to see the doctor today. This wish place also includes an iced-latte. ;)
I hope your visit to the doctor went well! [hugs hugs]
I want to be in Iceland.
Or Whole Foods, because I ran out of basil tea last week and they stock it.
(The garden is gorgeous, but I'm intent on north.)
I hope you get to Whole Foods, at least! (And let me know if you need me to send you basil tea -- I'm pretty sure the health food store sells it.)
