|05:52 pm - Frustrations, Post #36|
This morning the air-conditioning tech arrived at 8:30 to do routine maintenance. (Of course he found something to replace, but that's not a frustration worth talking about.) Master Danger, who had not quite cooled off from a hot-muggy-gross-weather sunrise walk, proceeded to play Watch-Dog with gusto, barking in manner vaguely threatening as the tech came inside before glowering from his post at my feet.
This would be fine, except that he kept barking: 1) whenever the tech shut a door or made a noise whilst in the garage or outside; 2) when the terrier and hunting dog next door barked at the tech, which was almost continuous. I mean, it was two hours of mostly constant barking.
So I was slightly frustrated and unable to concentrate on working from home, let's just say that.
From there I was --
* frustrated working at work;
* frustrated at the extremely poor attempt at rain the skies made, which was more like 2 hours of steam;
* frustrated at the announcement of a new character on Sleepy Hollow. To be honest, it's not the actor (Nikki Reed, new to me) or even the character (Betsy Ross) that annoys me -- it's this description, quoted in TV Line: Think more Angelina Jolie than frumpy Martha Stewart — a kickass Mrs. Smith to Ichabod Crane’s Mr. Smith. … [Betsy] is ruthless, smart and fearless, adjusting to blend in to whatever the situation demands, from demure handmaiden to honeypot to cutthroat spy. As the io9 article I linked above notes, this is narrative redundancy in the highest degree, since the show *should* be focusing on its existing kickass women, Abbie and Jenny Mills; worse, the suggestion that the character will be working with Crane is a repetition of Season 2's failure to focus on Abbie&Crane (or Abbie/Crane, as I prefer), the freakin' heart of the show. I'll give the show an episode or two, but I might be done.
Ah well. Time to put on some 80s New Order and dance away the blues. What are your good distractions today? May they be abundant enough to smother any and all frustrations.
The Sleepy Hollow show-runners really don't get why the ratings went down last season, do they? Or I suppose this could be network interference? In either case: UGH.
Two of the Sleepy Hollow writers are currently on Twitter chastising fans AND CRITICS (like MO RYAN, for fuck's sake) for being upset and telling them to "trust us." So clearly no lessons whatsoever have been learned.
Also, as you so rightly put it, UGH.
I will now rearrange that and send you a HUG instead.
Doggies: they have jobs to do.
Sorry for so much frustration! I think network TV is just always going to disappoint and frustrate, but there are those moments that make things almost worthwhile. :-)
If only Master Danger's idea of his job coincided with my ideas! :)
Cheers and hugs, and I will heed your wise words about network television. Happy day to you!

[hugs] you and looks reprovingly at the Young Master, who is being bratty and is in need of a severe timeout.
The Young Master was inadvertently punished today because I overslept by 30 minutes. We'll have to content ourselves with that. ;)
Hugs to you!
Nothing like having other dogs to cheer yours on in case he seems to be lagging...well, at least you have AC now that it's so very necessary.
A/C is so important! (That being said, I just read a local newspaper article about people who were consciously doing without it. I feel that practice only works in 1900s houses built for breezes, however...)
Hugs and joy to you today!
I grew up in the south before AC--I knew a lot about moving slowly, dressing coolly, and drinking lots of iced tea.
Apparently MD, like many of us, turns into a real bitch in the heat. ;)) Okay, that was horrible. So sorry about your frustrations -- it sucks when you can see a fandom pleasure being ruined by its creators. :(
I'm glad that your AC is working -- v. important. Yay for 80s New Order! You have such excellent musical taste. ((Hugs))
Master Danger is not a bitch but a jerk. Let us keep this straight. :)
Hugs hugs! Hope you're feeling good and listening to good music!
Duly noted. I did not mean to misuse a gendered insult. ((Hugs))

I will hope not to have to resort to earplugs! :)
Hugs hugs, L.
I don't understand how those universes will cross over, since they're so fundamentally different: magic and realist universes only mesh in fanfic, I think! But oh well.
It's been instructive to watch the Sleepy Hollow writers on Twitter chide fans and critics alike for not "having faith". This is Not The Way To Behave, I feel. ;)
Cheers to you!
