|09:36 am - One Cannot Be Chic in a Day When One Goes to Lowe's, Post #37|
I need to take a few moments out to grouse.
Today is a day where I would like to play with style. I have walked the dog, exercised(ish), organized myself, and now must figure out what to wear. But my day is not conducive to playing with style, as:
1) I will be going to my dusty office, in an almost deserted building, for a few hours.
2) I should go to Lowe's to pick up materials for weekend home-improvement projects.
3) It is unbelievably humid and hot, and storms are forecast for early this afternoon (which limits my shoe choices).
4) Master Danger last night was absolutely awful off-leash (it involved vicious growling through the fence at the admittedly ANNOYING terrier next door) and must be taken out on-leash into the sandpit that is my backyard every time today.
Also, this morning I made the mistake of clicking on an autumn-winter lookbook and falling in love with a blue shirtdress which is exactly the kind of thing I want to wear on my Power Days but is not currently in my closet.
While I go stand in front of my closet making pained faces, let me leave you with some images of people who probably don't have to go to Lowe's today:
1) The Sartorialist image of two women in Milan after a fashion show. I would change out the vertiginously high heels for something more walkable, however.
2) Anything Shini Park of Park and Cube wears in this evocation of summer; I especially want the white shirtdress (hmmm, I detect a theme).
3) And for an art opening tonight, I would wear the dress Sophie Hunter wore to the Serpentine Gala. Because why wouldn't I?... Because instead maybe I would want to wear the Diane von Furstenberg-like dress Michelle Gomez wore for the Doctor Who Comic Con panel. That pic doesn't show the outfit's true glory, but the way Ms Gomez presented herself there? Life goal.
I will not be wearing any of those, however. I gotta go to Lowe's.
May you be able to access the self you want today!

"May you be able to access the self you want today!"
That was supposed to be a quote. Grumble grumble fat stupid fingers tablet LJ grumblegrumble grumble.
Anyway, I hope you find time for your true self. [hugs]

Hugs, A, and a happy Friday.

On the other hand, perhaps you could create a new style, hardware store chic.
Love the black dress in the first image, wouldn't be able to move in the shoes though.
Those shoes are ludicrously high. [nods] It would make more sense (and make the outfit more chic) if the shoes were within the realm of wearability.
Cheers for your Friday, T!
I have a whole going-to-Lowe's section of my closet...
And love all the dresses and outfits, but terrified indeed by those shoes!
I have lots of going-to-Lowe's clothes, but none of them inspires, none speaks to me. ;)
Cheers and a great Friday to you, and better shoes for all!

If anyone could pull off chic in a Lowe's, it would be you. :)
I WISH. But you are very kind to say so. :)
Cheers for your Friday evening!

It probably doesn't help that I picked up a shirtdress from Zara in the sales does it?
I am happy for you! And sad for me. ;)
Is the shirt-dress a solid colour or a print?
In any event, hugs!

Light blue and white striped shirt type fabric with embroidery around a slit neck.
That sounds perfect! Hurrah!
I wish it were autumn so I could wear autumn clothes already!! But alas...
Hugs hugs and a good night!
Lori, you are so chic that even when you aren't wearing your chosen outfit your aura makes up for it. ;) Lovely pics, makes me want the life where I wear such things. I have to admit that at this point in my life those heels pictured just piss me off though. It's not necessary to put six inch heels on every shoe -- it doesn't even add anything to the design IMO. I just don't find the image of women balancing on stilts particularly attractive. History is full of pictures of supremely fashionable women wearing classic ensembles with small heels.
Go you for being virtuous and doing the Lowe's thing in this heat!
Thank you, my friend. I am currently wearing the most un-chic T-shirt and workout trousers ever (because I just worked out), so I am amused as well as touched. :)
Those shoes are utterly ridiculous, I agree. I wonder at what point 3-inch heels became "mid-heels," as if it's perfectly acceptable to have 4-inch and 5-inch heels as daily wear. I do not get it.
Beautiful dresses! I particularly liked the dark print from the Milan pic.
Master Danger is a caution. I have noisy pets, too. Well, pet... Amber, who's forever bitching about the management of the apartment, the lack of entertainment, and the commissary. Me, in other words.
I love that dark print too!
Hee for your noisy and complaining pet! Master Danger just growled at a crow outside without moving from his prone position on the tiles. Such a mighty dog....
Happy Saturday to you!
I like that black and white top on the Park & Cube site, but it's been a while since I could wear sleeves like that without feeling self conscious.
The lipstick dress is excellent, but I'm fairly certain they put the shoes on her after she sat down. And that she won't be standing up in them either.
I love Lowe's. There's an alternate timeline somewhere, where I learned carpentry and plumbing and the people at my local Lowe's know me by name.
Yeah, sleeveless with no cutaway on the shoulder is not a good look for me. But I like it on others!
I am so happy to hear that you love Lowe's! That affection goes with your craft skills, I think. [beams]
Hugs for your day!
I hope Lowe's was productive, and I'm certain you pulled together something kicky and impressive for the day, and today as well!
Alas, I am still trying to figure out what to get in Lowe's for my projects, and I am most un-chic today. But we persevere.
Happy happy Sunday to you!

Lowe's requires its own special chic look. One that looks great with the gardening section preferably and all the summer colors :-) I hope Master Danger is better behaved and things are cooler now. Loved the fashion links.
I love your description of Lowe's-chic! Perfect! [applauds]
Hugs and a lovely Sunday to you.
Loved Shini Park's pictures (and so much of it Gap) but since the jeans I fell in love with cost more than my first car, i fear they will not be coming to live with me.
I have trained myself to appreciate the images and not yearn for the crazy-expensive clothing featured therein. Or at least mostly to appreciate and not yearn. :)
So good to see you here! Hope San Diego was good to you. :)
