|06:08 pm - Clothes Diet, I Mean, Quota (The First Test of), Post #3|
Because of Master Danger's past medical expenses, and my upcoming home renovation and travel, I've been tweaking my budget, and one of the things I've been thinking about is my expenditure on clothing.
Here, a short illustration of how my mind works, an actual progression of thoughts from today...
ME: I suppose I could go on a clothes fast. Environmentally friendly as well as budget-friendly.
ME TOO: Seriously? How long can I go without buying clothes?
ME: Well, okay, let's not say "fast." Let's say "diet."
ME TOO: Because built into that metaphor is failure, c'mon.
ME: Well, all right. Clothes "quota."
ME TOO: 'Kay. The shirt from Brooks Brothers on mega-sale is it for the month of January, then.
ME: Exactly! The quota has been filled for now!
One hour later....
ME: Oh crap, there's an irreparable hole in my black cashmere pullover! I guess I should go online and --
ME TOO: Quota.
(I'm not replacing the sweater. Willpower!)
Cheers, and may your beginning of the year make you strong. :)
LOL! Check your messages :).
February is only three weeks away?
I think the beginning of the year is making me clumsy- I fell up the stairs today and caught myself two-handed on the edge of the top step, which I think was lucky and kind of symmetrical, except that something in my right wrist kind of popped and now I'm one with the ice-pack, twenty minute intervals.
Oh no! I send gentle virtual hugs and more ice-packs. Go to the walk-in clinic if you don't feel better soon. :(
[hugs hugs hugs]
Deprivation can be a parent of creativity (sometimes)--other times, just the parent of misery, I suppose. Hope the rest of your closet is moth-free!
Doing without a black pullover won't be too great a burden, I'm sure. And I can probably get a new one during the early sales next autumn. :)
Cheers and warmth for you -- I hope you're back near your ocean.
Return has happened, but not yet close enough to the ocean! Hope your new year brings unexpected freedom from diets of all kinds.
I sympathize. I put myself on a similar "quota," then noted today that my good black jeans are started to fade....
I can quit any time.
See, that's the worst -- when it's a staple of one's wardrobe!
I offer support, no matter what your decision re jeans is. :)
Cheers to you!
Cheers! (And Happy New Year!)
I have been having a week-long debate over the matter of getting a new coat, myself. Part of it is that The one I want the second-most, currently on sale at 60% off, is bright raspberry pink and obviously appeals to my inner eight-year-old (and matches basically nothing I own except the black and denim stuff) and the one I want the most, currently on sale for 40% off, is a good color for my wardrobe but is unlined boiled wool and therefore can't be worn over sweaters.
And I'm yet to answer the question "Do you really need a new coat or are you just cold."
Julia, so far buying deeply discounted earrings, hat, and scarf (which all match the #1
coat) has not helped damp down my woolen hunger.
Raspberry pink, though -- how cheering would that be on a cold grey day? There are really strong reasons to go that way if you need to. :)
Cheers, hugs, and woolen goods.
I've been having some success "shopping my closet" lately, but sometimes new clothes are necessary!
I actually like shopping my closet! Or so I tell myself. ;)
Cheers and hugs!

Here's to your willpower :)
Thank you! I will distract myself with thinking of other things than clothes...
Happy weekend to you!

Hugs and best wishes. You are strong like an Amazon, you can do this!
I'm not buying anything unless I desperately need it (like underwear), because I've got a pile of jeans waiting until I lose enough weight to fit back into them. I need to impose a quota on the acquisition of hair ornaments and shiny jewelry things, though, especially as I never remember to wear any of them.
I will shop my closet instead! :)
And cheers for your own thinking about quotas -- but I hope you start wearing your shiny pretties, even if it's just for you.
Reading this after all that good learning about our limited stores of willpower at the thing on Friday! You have these well worn neural pathways, too, don't you? :)
I say, get the black sweater replaced. I mean, really, you know at least one of the committments that has you!! :)
Boy, do I have some superhighways. ;)
I think I'll be able to refrain -- because honestly, there may be jumpers on sale in London in March. :)
Cheers and hgus!
Much sympathy. I resisted buying two framed old photographs of the local area in the Hospice Shop today.
Hurrah for your resistance! [applauds]
Oh, that's a brilliant strategy. :) I often wait twenty-four hours before buying clothes or shoes I see online.
Cheers and hugs to you!
