|11:40 am - Things of Joy, Post #3|
I haven't been Livejournaling in the past few days but I've been semi-idiosyncratically bullet-journaling. (However, I've chosen the wrong gel pen for this project, as it inevitably weeps on my fingers.)
So I'm just recording a few lists every day: Work, Home Etc, Writing, Weather, Exercise, and Joy. Sometimes that last is only an item I've had to work hard to think of; other times that last is very real record-keeping of things of joy.
A short list of things from the past few days:
*tea with a friend
*new workout shoes
*watching a video about Chatsworth House
*a new microwave popcorn-maker from Williams-Sonoma (ordered before Christmas)
*wine and appetizers downtown with friend; visit at a different bar with different friends afterward
*baking Whole Wheat Batter Bread from a 1950s Betty Crocker cookbook my mother had
*2-mile walk in perfect weather
*hawk flying low over my backyard, bird and shadow
*dancing to an old Stevie Wonder album
*wolf-moon on a cold clear night
Do you keep a journal? Do you track your joys? What's a thing you've loved in the past few days?
My awareness of bullet journaling was almost non existent, so I looked it up, and damn- it's amazing and I kind of want to do it, but it also looks crazy complicated. I do have a daily calendar for work, but it's not very pretty or inspirational.
One thing that gave me joy this past week was rearranging the Leisure Reading area at the library- I got the bookcases moved, redid all the furniture and while it's not perfect, I like it. No one else seems to be particularly impressed with it (it was fine before, it's fine now) but it makes me happy.
Also I kept the amaryllis I was given for Christmas alive long enough that it bloomed.
It's kind of cool and it's also horrifying in measuring how I need to write more. But I don't do proper bullet-journaling, which is much prettier than my own efforts. :)
YAY for rearranging the Leisure Reading area! YAY you!
[hugs and flowers]
I don't keep a journal but the joy of two consecutive days of sunshine after a week of extremely welcome rain is hard to overstate. It's lovely to be home, lovely to have the snow pack and reservoirs reaching something approaching normal and the golden winter sun in the Sierra foothills is indeed a joy to behold.
HURRAH for both rain and the recovery! How wonderful.

Me, lying in bed with a book, listening to the rain.
Hugs, and huzzah the joy.
That is one of the best activities there is. YAY!
Something I've loved the past few days: Irish breakfast tea with lemon and honey. (I think I'll have a cup today, too.)
Hurray for good tea! Hurray for you!
Wonderful! The hawk and Stevie Wonder--and all the others.
My joy today was walking in the MLK day march and hearing an amazing voice sing "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and seeing only two flags on the SC state capitol!
I need to start recording joys--what a good thing to do.
Cheers for walking in the MLK day march! And cheers for only seeing two flags on the state capitol!
May you have many joys to record. :)
I haven't kept a journal in years, it got to the point where it was just more of the same every day. I don't think I was trying hard enough to be fair.
Yes, journaling can be tough. This is more to remind myself that yes I'm working (or no, I'm really not, get on that). :)
Cheers for your Tuesday!
