08:07 am - Steam-Smoke-Magic
Two things on this Tuesday:

1) You've probably seen this link before, but I love it so...

"Expialidocious", a magical remix/mashup of Mary Poppins moments. The silhouette of the sweeps dancing on the chimneys is so wonderful in this context, and the shot of Mr Banks with umbrella, dancing on red. (And, um, when one can't hear Dick Van Dyke massacring the accent, Mr Van Dyke is astonishingly pleasing to the eye. My goodness).
The electronica really, really works here.

2) And because thunderstorms have been sweeping through the subtropics (thank the heavens for small mercies) the past few evenings, a dreamy little drabble:

The moment after a summer thunderstorm, it happens.

Steam-smoke-magic uncurls from the concrete. Release of heat, the human says. But it's not that simple.

The grey cat hidden on the oak stump uncurls from his perch. Arch of the back becomes steam-smoke-magic, black eyes change color, paws lift.

The branches and vines shiver as he rises.

The golden dog nosing along the roses shifts her weight. Round belly lifts free of the grass, white paws touch on grey steam-smoke-magic.

The human looks out the window, and sees only steam -- a simple release of heat.

May you dance and dream today! :-)

Animals always see more. :nods:

Linkage! Can't imagine Dick Van Dyke silenced...must see!

Am watching the Dr Who marathon. MMm, Nine/Rose.

Steamy hot beachside. Worse inland, I'd think. Ack. And I still have to go OUT into it...

Hugs for dancing and dreaming!

I have to go out in the hideous heat... in forty-five minutes. Alas alas.

Yay for your enjoying marathons and beachside moments, too. :-)

Lovely drabble.

Ah, I love Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins, even when he is massacring the accent!

Thanks, Gwynne. :-)

And yes, I do love DVD as Bert, but there are some close-ups in that video where, MY GOODNESS... I didn't remember him as quite that handsome. Or maybe it's just that he's one of my Types. ;-)

Hugs, good dreaming, happy Tuesday!

MUCH handsomer than I remember, especially when he isn't grinning with his mouth wide open.

Home at last after a lovely few days lolling in New England with books and yarn and comics and the odd thunderstorm. All over the East Coast, apparently!

And the drabble so works for me.

Beautiful drabble -- much love.

Sekrit fact: I always wanted to see a TV movie where DickvDyke and Robert Culp played crotchety brothers doing crotchety things.

I dream TV dreams too often.

Thank you, H_P. I'm sure your animal companions do the same thing. :-)

And I love the Dick van Dyke and Robert Culp connection, it's perfect. (Now that you've said it, I wonder why I didn't see it myself.) Maybe we can go back in time and make it happen...

Hugs, joy, and a time for cool!
