|04:01 pm - Things of Comfort|
The Dog of the House is curled up at my feet, seeking comfort while the thunderstorm rattles and booms outside, while rain drips down the window. Madame is calm outwardly, although fear ripples under her coats. For the previous Dog of the House, there was no comfort from storms: she scratched paced panted fretted scratched paced panted until the hideous threat had quieted.
I like thunderstorms well enough, but I understand the need for comfort sometimes, like now. I understand the need for
cool when it's hot, warmth when it's cold
softness underneath bare toes
a book you know by heart
a book you thought you knew by heart but didn't
a surprise small gift
an old song drifting through your mind
a stretch up down and to the side
a door closed to intruders
an umbrella that turns into a sword
enough gas to get you where you're going
What is a thing of comfort for you? May you find lots of them this weekend!
A hot bath! Even in hot weather, if the going's really been tough, lying down in hot water will make it better. Extra points if there's sweet bubbles or a jacuzzi involved. Triple points if there are candles, wine, and music. Innumberable points of there's someone charming involved.
Had a good many of those going last night....
I'm glad you had a Bath of Comfort last night -- and hope you have one tonight if you need it! :-)
Happy Friday, too.
A comfort thing: a cup of Irish breakfast tea with milk and sugar!
(I generally don't take my tea with milk, but sometimes it's necessary.)
Applause, and all good thoughts for a good weekend!
Buttered popcorn and an old movie
A coloring book and crayons
Sorting though patterns, threads and fabrics until the right project comes together
What a WONDERFUL list. (And now I'm craving buttered popcorn -- and separately, new office supplies.)
Hugs, thanks, and all good weekend thoughts!

Paper that lets pen and ink glide across
A really good ball point pen
Apple Crisp with in season apples
A mug that lets fingers grasp all around it and holds the heat of tea
The old battered blanket that never ceases to give warmth to human or cat
(and really have to agree with office supplies. Was in supply heaven school supply shopping last weekend!)
Hugs and may there be less thunder this weekend! :)
Those are wonderful additions, beautifully described -- and it's cheering to see how many people love office supplies!
Happy weekend to you and yours, and may the office supplies keep coming. :-)
A bowl of homemade soup
Fresh sheets on the bed
The feeling of accomplishment on having a clean house (to pay for the hard work in getting it that way!)
Really good saltines
Hugs for the weekend!
Fresh sheets and a clean house, yes! Perfect!
These are great additions, thank you. May you guys have a WONDERFUL weekend. :-) [hugs]
Things of comfort...hmm. Cool clean sheets after a long shower. Ceiling fans. My old but still pretty Victoria's Secret camisole. Hot chocolate, but the real comfort there is real marshmallows. A lamp casting enough light on my book but not enough to light the room. A good solid deadbolt. A warm cuddling cat. The smell of vanilla beans.
My best to the Miss, and to you!
Hurrah for comforting, protective things which tease your senses. :-)
Happy Saturday to you, D, and the animals!

Gets the butter out of the fridge.
I need to get a new toaster. (Mine tragically died a month ago, and out of a perverse sense of asceticism or something, I haven't replaced it...)
Hugs, toast, and a good Sunday, L!
And look at that pony in your icon! Lovely!
Wonderful answers -- and I hope you have ponies and cats in the week ahead. :-)
