And on we go!
Last entry ended with She let the tears go. Falling, falling, and the pain. Today's goes something like this...
When Tim showed up at her kitchen door ten minutes later, her eyes were still burning. Seeing him there – dark male shape on the other side of the screen, broad sloped shoulders always on the edge of a shrug, palms pressed now into the mesh so that black dug into tan – she turned away so that he couldn't see her tears or pain or stupidity.
It had been twelve months, three days, and an eternity since he'd stood there on her steps. It annoyed her that she wanted to open the door, had wanted to for twelve months, three days, and an eternity.
“Give me a minute, Rodriguez,” she said, and reached for a carving knife, high carbon stainless steel, granton edge. It reminded her of the Branch, and that made for better magic.
“Lucky I know what that's about, Jessa, hon, or I'd think you were going to come after me.” Oh, the richness of that damn spellcasting voice of his....
“Don't think I wouldn't,” she said sharply, “no matter what you can do.” But she hesitated on the threshold nevertheless. Mesh might not have been much protection, but it was something.
No. No protection in Summerhaven without the Branch, and anyway, surely he'd broken all of her heart there was.
She stepped out into clear crisp autumnal air, looked past him at waterless Arizona sky, and said, “All right.”
Her eyes were still burning.
May your day be clear and protected! :-)

I just realised I missed the second part of this so I just read that too. I'm really fascinated to know what's going on here and what exactly the Branch is.
Thank you thank you, K! I'm pleased that it's hooked you so far. :-)
"broad sloped shoulders always on the edge of a shrug"
Thank you, F, thank you twice, and a good day to you. :-)
It's "paragraphs" by now, isn't it... Ah well. [sigh]
Thank you thank you, L, and there will be more tomorrow morning. :-) Happy Thursday!

Still reading. Edge of seat.
A, thank you thank you! And I hope your day (day off?) is a good one! [hugs]
C, how lovely of you to say! Thank you thank you, and may it be a good Thursday for you. :-)
Mmm, hooked indeed.
Thanks for the morning treat before I rush off to look at books.
Hurrah and thank you, ALH, and a good afternoon with the books, too! :-)

I'm so glad you're enjoying it! Thank you thank you, Gwynne -- and a good, non-smoky rest of Thursday, too.
Rainkatt, hi! [hugs]
I'm posting first thing every morning. And I'm grateful you've read and found it intriguing!
[hugs, sympathy, support]
Thank you thank you! We keep going, we move on.... :-)
