06:25 pm - Gardenia and Pandemonium Right, back to my burblings...
I am craving a gardenia.
Now that I say that, I realize how silly it sounds. It summons ideas of my chewing on a white flower solemnly in manner of cow and cud -- which isn't the point at all, I hasten to add.
It's just that I'm craving one single, fragrant blossom. I'd float it in a clear bowl, set it off to be admired, dance by it at random moments to enjoy the fragrance.
(Or maybe I'd put it in my study, so that while I work, that glorious scent would lap me in luxury.)
I have killed two gardenia bushes, however. Last year's didn't even bloom before it petulantly (but not petally, as it were) turned brown and went back to gardenia-heaven. This year's thought about blooming, set out a tantalizing array of buds... and then turned brown and went back to gardenia-heaven. So it's something I can't provide for myself.
....................
This morning, while I slogged away at my private excuse for step aerobics, I played the Pet Shop Boys' 2009 album Yes. (I do like a bit of electronic dancey wotsit to ease me through the sweaty torture of it all, and I love and have loved the Pets with a love that is true.)
Anyhoo, I heard as for the first time the song "Pandemonium" (which the Pets liked well enough to take its title for their most recent tour CD/DVD). This is an electrostompy song, with an opening which sounds just like the opening of the old-school Doctor Who theme. I thought the following things:
*"Good Lord, Tennant & Lowe have just written the Love Theme to a happy Doctor/Master slash epic." (Some sample lyrics: "The stars and the sun dance to your drum,/ and now it's pandemonium"; "I'd declare war but then you'd win it.") *"Pandemonium... hmmm, didn't Satan rule there in Paradise Lost? 'Cause it's all about daemons. As it were." *"I wonder what kind of story I could tell about a different kind of Pandemonium. Without Satan. Or Doctor/Master slash, for that matter, which although lovely is not particularly relevant to my interests..."
It's something I may have to provide for myself.
And now you have the link between Gardenia and Pandemonium. :-) May all your connections these days be happy ones!

I love Gardenias, too. We had one when we lived in CA (not planted by me). I'm sorry for your (plant) loss. I envy my friends here who've managed to grow gardenias from their mother's cuttings! [shares virtual gardenia with you]
Happy start of the week! Doctor/Master yay!!
"Electronic Dancey Wotsit" would be a good name for a Pet Shop Boys' album. :-)
::hugs:: You have a v. appropriate icon. :-)
And I'm sure Tennant and Lowe would roll their eyes at "electronic dancey wotsit," bless them!

May you find your gardenia.
((Hugs)) Payday's Wednesday. A trip to the florist is in my future. ;-)
[hugs] Happy start to your week, L! Electronic dancey stuff is the only way to work out. It's true! [nods]
Happy week to you, too. :-) All plants I plant turn brown and go to plant heaven. But I do love the smell of gardenias!!! {hugs!}
[shares your brown thumb] [sends good thoughts of gardenias] [hugs for a good week] ![[User Picture]](https://l-userpic.livejournal.com/123298431/7090727) | From: | anne_d |

Somewhere recently, I walked past a gardenia bush in bloom. Oh, the fragrance...
Interesting connections you've got there. How wonderful to walk past gardenias in bloom!
(And yes, my mind works in mysterious ways.)
Happy start of your week, with time to rest! ![[User Picture]](https://l-userpic.livejournal.com/123298431/7090727) | From: | anne_d |

Time to rest would be a good thing. We'll just keep hope alive... Oh, what a fabulous sense-memory. Thank you for sharing! :-)
Happy week, Rainkatt. [hugs] You are the kindest, C. Bless. :-)
Happy week, too! "Jungle Gardenia by Tuvache, the favorite fragrance of beautiful women."
Bringing back hours of my misspent youth watching "Queen for a Day".
A single gardenia is the way to go. Now I have visions of Billy Holiday.
Thank you for starting the day off with connections! I'd forgotten about Jungle Gardenia! (I remember it primarily from drugstore shelves, though.)
Oh, yes, Lady Day. [goes off to listen to her]
[sends thanks and happy-Tuesday thoughts your way] Gardenias are indeed beautiful, and I fel the need to listen to the PSBs again. Hurrah for my cunning plan to get people to listen to the Pets. :-) And hurrah for gardenias, and you! |
