10:25 am - Late and Early, Low and High
This morning, I was awakened by a change in light rather than my alarm clock, which had died.

Luckily -- for relative values of 'lucky' -- my east-facing window has a single curtain, through which sunlight penetrates even when the sun isn't quite up. I awoke, aware that something wasn't quite right, to find the Small Blonde Dog dancing on the rug beside the bed. "Up! Up! Up!"

And who can blame her? It was 6:07, rather than the 5:45 to which she is accustomed, and it's entirely possible that she COULD HAVE STARVED in that 22-minute period. Poor dog.

But she was fed, and my vintage-looking alarm clock revived by a new battery, and we managed to get out the door for our walk at the usual time...

Only to find the miracle of a 68-degree morning. While the rest of the eastern part of the country has baked, the subtropics have been slightly cooler than normal -- mid-September temperatures come early, perhaps -- and this morning is the last gasp of that. And with slightly lower humidity!

This afternoon, however, it's forecast to be 8 degrees warmer than yesterday. The highs are back with a vengeance.

So let me ask you -- what do you think of when you think of early? what do you consider cool?

May you have just the right time and the right temperature today!

When I think of early, I think of quiet--or very noisy with birdsong and nothing else. In the almost-sub-tropics here, I get up and walk or garden so that I'm finished by 9 (or even better, 8), and I love the dewy grass, the hazy sky, and the empty streets.

Cool is letting a wave wash over my head, and then another one.

[nods] In the subtropical summer, which goes from June to October, I need to be done with my outside activities (ie. walk-running) by no later than 8:30. And the Blonde One really needs to be walked by 7:15 on days we can walk.

And what a perfect description of cool.

Happy Thursday!

I glanced at your other comments and giggled. One day last month I sat on my deck after sunset loving the cool breeze, and noticed that the thermometer said 91--it was such an improvement over 102. Cool is anything that's cooler than it used to be!

Heeee -- when I lived in the Southwest, during the hottest parts of summer days (when my air-conditioning couldn't get my west-facing, concrete-block, second-story apartment below 85 degrees) I would step into the 112-degree temperature for a few minutes and then come back to "cool" 85.

It's all about the contrasts. ;-)

Early? The alarm goes off at 4:50 on weekdays so the Husband can leave for work by 5:30. The cats get me out of bed (because I'm the only one who notices) by 5:15 every morning, even on weekends. Breakfast must be served on schedule. There are Standards. So early really depends on whether or not I got enough sleep the night before.

Cool? Here, right now, it's grey and cloudy and 66°. That's cool, and nice, and weather I can happily live with. It'll probably hit the low 80s this afternoon. By tomorrow, though, we'll be heading for the high 80s-low 90s. Not cool.

I so understand the inviolate nature of the Animals' Schedule, and I send sympathies your way.

Except that you're in perfect weather, and I'm not, so... ;-)

Happy Thursday!

We got lucky - usually in July, it's close to triple digits here, and worse the farther inland you go. I wish I could share the nice weather with you, but it's probably heading your way anyway, so...

Sadly, the subtropics here have just soared to well above normal, where we'll be for the weekend. Alas!

May YOU stay away from triple-digits!

Early would be before everyone else is awake and the house is quiet. It would be really nice if early was 7:00 on a weekend.

Right now 55 degrees would be cool, especially if it's in the shade.

For me -- ever since I got my own dog -- weekends have no meaning. The animal requires feeding At the Usual Time. ;-)

And oh, what a lovely temperature for cool! It's a subtropical winter's day!

Happy Thursday!

I don't usually get home from work until after 12:30AM or thereabouts, so early for me is 9. God-awful early is 7. Hell is 5. Though sometimes 5 is also bedtime.

Cool is 50's, the moment long sleeves seem like a good idea, when you know where you are against the air, sharp and solid.

Cool is also not feeling like you're trapped, trying to breathe in the shower room at the local gym after the soccer team just left.

A night-person! I view you with admiration and amazement. :-)

Oh, I love your first description of cool (although for me it's the mid-60s when I think of long sleeves). As for the second -- alas alas for humidity.

Happy Thursday, despite the steam!

Early is anytime I'm awake before B, the early bird. If the cat keeps sleeping when I get up, it's VERY early.

As for cool, it's lovely at the moment. My widget temperature gauge says 69, sunny and a light breeze, but since it's due to end up over 90 today, I'm trying to appreciate it now and think siesta later. I love working from home more than I can ever say.

Hooray for slightly lower humidity!

69 with a breeze! [clasps hands to heart]

But yes, siestas are good. I've also rediscovered the joy of cave-like rooms (drapes and blinds mostly closed) when it's hot outside.

Happy Thursday, with naps!

When I saw the reading of 70 on the thermometer at 530 this morning, I had to look again to be sure. What a blessing.

When eating breakfast with my brother and SIL, outside at 930, it was 85. Still a blessing.

Right now, waiting for D to wake up from a nap, it is 85 in the house and 91 outside. Um...still a blessing...barely...but it's that I have a/c on!

This morning was a blessing. [nods]

And without too much humidity, even the 85 for breakfast might not have been too bad... but ack for 85 in the house. I send you fans and ice.

(And good thoughts to D for tomorrow.)

Happy Thursday today!

Seven in the morning. I'm not a morning person, so 5.45 would hurt.

Cold? Below zero (C) to 5, I'd definitely wear socks. It's my inner Scot/natural anti-freeze.

((Hugs))

Another night-person! You, too, I admire--

And I marvel at your 'natural anti-freeze'. I'm the one leaping for the socks when the thermometer goes below 70 degrees Fahrenheit. ;-)

Happy Thursday, L, with hugs!

It's been surprisingly "cool" here in the normally braising temperatures of the Southwestern deserts, too! (In that I don't wish to die the moment I step out of the air conditioning.)

But tomorrow is Friday, which is nice even if it's going to top 112 again! {hugs hugs!} to you and the SBD!

Happy Friday -- with "cool" temperatures, too :-) -- to you and yours!

(And yes, Southwestern summers do re-calibrate the scale a bit.)

Winston is much the same way. In that 20 minutes he will starve to death. He's very unhappy that I do not walk from my bed to his food bowl. Instead, I get dress and get myself ready in the bathroom first. Shame on me.

I don't like to wake up any earlier than 9 a.m. Actually, I could probably easily teach my body to wake up between 5:30-6 a.m., but the time between 6-9 a.m. is my sweet sleeping time which I cannot be wakened from.

These poor animals! How will they survive? ;-)

Body clocks are fascinating, and difficult to reset. [nods] May you get enough sleep this weekend!

I'm starting work an hour earlier than everyone else right now, and the office is so quiet and conducive to productivity at that time of the morning.

Oh, my. Right now, early is 7. In August, it will be 5:30.

I admire your year-round discipline (and don't give me the dog story! The Tall Man feeds the dogs at 5:30 and then comes back to bed ...)

also, because I'm coming to the party late, I can happily report we had a good, if short, storm last night .... thus, it is nice and cool still: mid-80's, I'm guessing.

::hugs::

Heee -- the Small Black Dog of Chaos trained me into becoming a morning person, and the Blonde Dog has reinforced it. ;-)

I send cheers (slightly envious ones, okay) for a coolish day after an evening storm, and hugs and good cheers for you in particular!
