I've been taking a break from work and writing and reorganizing, all those things you do at the start of a new year, and thinking about old times.

It started with this Telegraph column by Sarah Mower, wherein she talks about the Seventies-revival elements of the coming fashion year. (It is illustrated by a 1970s pic of Lauren Hutton, one of my style idols, looking breezy in the best 70s way.)

Now, not all the revival items will attract me -- and Mower notes that the 70s themselves looked back at the 40s, so that what usually pulls me is those nostalgically remixed items of 40s style. But there is a little something about the long slouchy ease of 70s style, isn't there? Shorn of excesses polyester et al (hey, wouldn't Qiana be a wicked cool name for a paranormal villain?), the lines can be so pleasing and easy to live with.

(Revisiting The Mary Tyler Moore Show is in order again. ;-))

I've been listening to old James Taylor and Carly Simon songs this morning. There was something about the drops of bitter in the sweetness, the edges along the smooth flowing lines that could cut the unwary --

Like this. Carly Simon, 1972, singing "That's The Way I Always Heard It Should Be." (Check out the early fleeting glimpse of Art Garfunkel in full 'fro. ;-))

Yes. That's the Way I Always Heard It Should Be.

May your lines be smooth today!

I remember Bullock's, but Bullock's Wilshire was much more upscale -- so how cool to have your mother's wedding dress! That sounds amazing.

Happy Friday, with good memories! :-)
