A lunchtime "What ho!" and a quick statement of purpose for your Wednesday....
One of the current types of story which has been deemed unfashionable is the Portal Fantasy. (See this Making Light post from October 2012 as support for this assertion.) I myself have a novel-length portal-fantasy/romance which I'd been thinking I'd send out again when the fashions change back....
But then I thought, what the heck, that's what self-publishing is for. Surely some other folk like portal fantasy, romance, and 1930s/1940s music as much as I do?
After a month of revision, I've now begun the process of getting my manuscript ready for Kindle and (I hope) Smashwords publishing. (The things I don't know about formatting -- oh my goodness.) But as I prepare, I wanted to alert you all that it'll be coming up in the next month or so.
The title: Traveller and Wish-Queen.
The description: In a London not quite our own, the Guild of Travellers has a suicide mission for their rebellious archivist and reluctant mage Tom Grey. In a Port-world not at all ours, the wish-queen Liliana –- only the uninformed call her a genie -– receives the same mission as her final task before resigning. Together, Tom and Lily will move through a magical London and then journey to the Port of Hward, a desert-world of swords, swing music, and lost serpent-gods, to steal the Lord Citizen’s amulet – and to find out what love and partnership can be.
And the first paragraph:
Liliana, for the moment still a wish-queen, sat down on her dragon-lizard steamer trunk, folded her hands, and waited for Dalla, the High Queen of the Genn, to come and pass judgment.
More to come! But I wanted to give you a taste today.
May your day be full of adventures!
Can't wait! Great idea--and I'm sure lots of us will buy!
I hope you like it! :)
Cheers and thanks to you.

E-readers can be cool! :)
Thanks, A, and a happy day to you.
"a desert-world of swords, swing music, and lost serpent-gods..."
Okay, I don't think you're going to find that combination anywhere else. It's just so you. In a good way. ((Hugs))
My specialty is putting together odd things and hoping they work! :)
Cheers, Nell, and thanks, and many hugs.
How exciting! You had me at magical London. :-)
and then journey to the Port of Hward, a desert-world of swords, swing music, and lost serpent-gods
Now there's an interesting combination!
I really enjoyed playing with magical London AND the secondary world. :))
