|06:49 am - Balance|
I am bad at balance.
This is literal: when I was doing yoga, I could rely on falling out of tree pose, king dancer pose, and occasionally out of mountain pose. (It's hard to stand up straight, y'all.) My late mother used to call me Miss Grace for my ability to trip over linoleum or similar, except -- once I start falling, I usually fall right.
This is literal-metaphorical: it's hard for me to figure out how to juggle work, avocation, responsibilities, and the Dangerous Dog. (Not actually juggle the Dangerous Dog -- he's really long and also bitey.) I'm working on listing again, but still... la la la. I am trying not to start falling.
But yesterday I went to the Interfaith Kitchen to do my regular every-other-month stint. There'd been a mixup -- the coordinator didn't know my friends and I were coming this time -- so there was already a full complement of servers, individuals doing court-ordered community service. But I paid my financial contribution, and then I spent 45 minutes helping prep. My tasks were mixing coleslaw and then preparing little cups of pickles to accompany the burgers. There is something deeply meditative (at least if you're only doing it for half an hour) about diving the fork into the pickle jar and collecting the proper amount of pickles and stowing them safely away, diving and collecting and stowing, diving and collecting and stowing....
It felt a little like balance.
May your day give you poise in all the best ways!

There is something soothing about routine. You don't have to think about what you're doing, you just keep dong it, over and over and over, and let your mind work on something else.
I suspect I needed the soothing routine last night!
Cheers and a delicious Tuesday, A.
Ah, balance. I was born under Libra, but i think my sign should have come with a slash though it.
But falling right! That's a real talent.
Heee -- but are Libra's scales balanced?
Peace and good things to you on this Tuesday!

I rather enjoy doing repetitive tasks (for a little while), I like the sense of accomplishment on a task that has a set end.
Yes, I agree. It's nice to see results for work (which often is less clear with my actual employment :)).
Happy Tuesday, T, and good cheer!

Balancing stuff is hard! I also find routine tasks soothing...
Hurrah for you and your Tuesday, Gwynne! [hugs]

Solidarity, L! :)
[hugs] Have a great Tuesday-into-Wednesday!
I'm not good at balance either, in all senses of the word. But I like routine, and simple, repetitive tasks, they calm me down. ((Hugs))
Yay for calming things and for you, my friend! [hugs]
