|05:18 pm - To top off my week of wonders....|
...I think I have given myself a black eye.
(I swear I was going to post on mid20th-century English fiction or George Sanders or something other than myself, but here it is. I blame the swelling under my right eye.)
How did you injure yourself? one might ask. And I of course could spin a tale of derring-do or confronting a mugger or similar, but the truth is that I walked into a petiole of a needle palm in my backyard.
(The petiole is basically like a branch. A thick and hard celery-stalk-shaped branch, if you will, dashed uncomfortable when slammed against one's cheekbone.)
After Master Danger's supper, I took him outside for his post-meal constitutional. However, since the unsupervised pit bulls in the next yard were out, and since their favorite thing is to bark madly at Master Danger and then hurl themselves against the new wooden fence if he comes near them, I took him out on his leash -- which prevents confrontations and fence-damage.
Master Danger, however, wished to explore at a high rate of speed, and as he pulled me around one corner of the yard, my glasses slipped -- which meant I didn't see the petiole as I also approached at a high rate of speed, and WHAM. Not the good George-Michael-and-Andrew-Ridgeley-and-an-exclamation-mark kind of WHAM, either.
At least I didn't break anything, and while it's going to be v.v.embarrassing to go to the social event I'm attending tonight, we persevere.
With a black eye.
May your weekend and your person remain unmarred by untimely accidents. ;)
Oh no! *supplies wine and a good concealer*
Thank you, C! Amusingly, the social event I'm to attend is a wine-tasting. ;)
Hugs and all good thoughts to you.
Hee! Walk proud, tell them they should see the other guy :)
a) The back of my left hand is black and green right now from hitting it on the corner of the sofa table.
b) Today with two bags of garbage in my two hands, I pulled the heavy wooden door to the dumpster open with my foot. It whacked me in the lip.
I feel your pain :)
So, btw, we were talking about you in comments last week. If you have not seen the Canadian series Slings and Arrows (and forgive me if you have, I don't remember stuff so good), well, then, you MUST. YOU MUST NOW :)
Yikes! We shall be bruised together. :)
(And I have seen Slings and Arrows. I admire it, but it doesn't quite speak to me, which does seem strange...)
Happy start of your weekend!
Fair enough. We all like what we like.
Have a good weekend!
Ouch! I'm glad it wasn't worse, but sure it hurt like the dickens.
Maybe you can wear a dashing eye patch
to cover it up.
I love that eye patch! I also like the anti-Silence
eyepatch Mark Gatiss sported when he got an eye infection. :)
(Actually I have bruises and swelling where an eyepatch would rub, so no fashion statement for me.)
Cheers and thanks and a great evening!

Ouch! Well, that's the capper to a less than fabulous week. I hope your weekend is much more pleasant.
We will hope for the best. ;)
Hugs and a great weekend, Gwynne!

Oh, dear! It hasn't been your week. Hope it gets better quickly and you have a lovely weekend.
Happy happy weekend, K! [hugs]

Oh, ow! We have no needle palms here, but the palms we do have are adequately supplied with nasty thorns, so one that's named 'needle' must be exponentially more thorny. :wince:
The 'leaf' part is sort of thorny, but the petiole isn't TOO bad. I have a nice thin cut on one cheekbone. It's a statement. ;)
Happy Saturday, Barb!

Oh, ouch, poor dear! Tell them you were fighting off an army of zombies?
Feel better soon, and I hope your social do is enjoyable. *hugs*
The social do was a wine-tasting outside, and it was mostly dark. So all was well. ;)
Happy Saturday, plus hugs to you!
That is exactly the kind of thing that would happen to me. It's like we're the same person or something (except you have better clothes). Sending ice and hugs!
Ice was applied, and so I am bruised and cut but not burdened with the full black-eye experience. I count this as a win. :)
Hugs hugs, Nell, and an awesome weekend!
Oh, no--what a way to end a week of hell! So sorry. I would second the eye patch, because I know you could carry it off. But mostly I send you good thoughts and swift healing. :hugs:
Luckily it isn't a complete black eye, so my glasses will hide the bruising and cut. We persevere.
Cheers to you, F, hugs, and a happy dancing weekend!
Thank you, Stevie! Luckily it's not a full black eye, so I'll be able to go about in public without an eye-patch. :)
Cheers and a great day to you!

Yikes! Hope it isn't too bad and clears up soon.
It's looking better already. :)
Cheers, T, and happy Saturday!

Luckily it's just scratched and bruised rather than the full black eye, so I count myself lucky. :)
Thank you, Rainkatt -- but YOUR injuries are much more worthy of sympathy! [sends lots of hugs]
A glittery eyepatch? LOL!
I gave myself a black eye when I bashed my head on the door frame - oy. Spent the rest of that week telling everyone that, 'no, Jim did not punch me.' Sad that so many people thought that, even fleetingly :(
Anyway, to end on a happy note - yay - wine-tasting :)
Owwww in retrospect for your black eye! And oh dear for the people's comments. :(
